ROGER CUMMINGS

February 15, 1951 – May 12, 2019

An amazing singer, songwriter, entertainer; Roger “RD” Cummings has transcended on May 12, 2019 at the young age of 68 years.

Roger’s Story:

I was born in Winnipeg on Thursday, Feb. 15, 1951 to Loletta O'Brien & (George) Raymond Cummings, with older sister LoAnne.

I have some great memories of living on Minto St. where I grew up with my cousins and many school friends.

My mother bought me a guitar when I was young (against my father's wishes) and I practiced over and over in my room. I loved and collected record albums and drew my inspiration of music from Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Kris Kristofferson, and many more.

At the age of 19 (before I was legally allowed in bars), I played in Kenora at the Bay City Hotel where I met Jim Scammell and we became lifelong friends with his entire family.

My Mother passed in Spring of 1972 and in August of that same year I met the love of my life, my life partner - Lori Rosemarie Sherrington who was waiting for the bus at the corner of Ness Ave & Sturgeon Road. I stopped to give her a ride, but I had my work cut out for me to convince her I was a nice guy.

We married on March 2, 1974 and our wonderful son Sean O'Brien Cummings, was born June 21, 1974. On Feb. 6, 1978 Jesus blessed us with our other wonderful son Travis Cole Cummings. We have 2 FABULOUS Grandchildren Kieran & Kaity Cummings, whom we adore.

In my music career, I started many Bands including Country River Band in the early 1980's and went on to entertain lined up crowds in many towns in Manitoba & Ontario with fine musicians and friends by my side, Terry Barnett, Randy Joyce, Bob Skronek (to name a few).

When our sons were old enough, Lori joined the band and we recorded several of my original songs, Main Street Bride, Aces & Eights, Oldtimer. I also wrote many other songs including, Truly Thursday's Child, Black Rose, Captain's Letter Home, Medora, Jesus you Blessed me, and many others.

I want my Family & Friends to know that I LOVE YOU ALL; I have had a great life here on earth, many fun times and many parties.  I am PROUD to say - My belief in Jesus got me through so many tough situations.

I AM NEVER GONE FROM YOU - On May 12, 2019 - I transcended, into a beautiful afterlife. Please continue to keep me ALIVE in your thoughts, play my music, talk to me, tell stories and joke with me, I am merely in another room and I am DEFINITELY STILL HERE - ALL AROUND YOU.

Until our SOULS MEET AGAIN, be kind to yourselves and your loved ones, it is so important.

Thank you for Loving me - ROGER CUMMINGS,

Living Legend, West End Legend, Singer, Songwriter, Entertainer & All around Great Guy
