PAUL JOSEPH CYR

March 9, 1945 – December 25, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce that Paul Cyr passed away on December 25, 2024, in Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 79.

A devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Born on March 9, 1945, in St. Boniface, Manitoba, Paul was the second youngest of 14 children born to Ben and Juliette Cyr.

Family was the cornerstone of Paul’s life. Together with his wife Dawn, who predeceased him in 2014, Paul built a loving family that was his greatest source of pride. He leaves behind his children: Jason Cyr (Kandice Keith), Ryan Cyr (Jessica Romanoff), and Charlene Mitchell (Greg Mitchell). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Alexandra, Maggie, and Daniel (children of Jason); Jessy, Tommy, and Cassie (children of Ryan); and Ewan and Hudson (children of Charlene).

Paul served his community with unwavering dedication for over 40 years as a firefighter in Winnipeg, culminating his distinguished career as a District Chief. Known for his steady leadership and commitment to helping others, Paul exemplified courage and service throughout his life.

He will be remembered for his selflessness, his sharp wit, and his unwavering devotion to his children and grandchildren. Paul’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and an unshakeable commitment to the people who mattered most to him.

A service to celebrate Paul’s life will be held at 10:00am on February 6, 2025 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Firefighters’ Burn Fund in his memory.

As a special note we would like to thank the staff of Seven Oaks Hospital - Third floor, unit one - for their compassion and care.

Paul’s love and the memories he created will remain in our hearts forever.

Paul’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

A sad passing of a credit to the department.. Linda and I were reminising about about the times we spent with Paul and, Dawn at many functions. We. Recall His wit and humour, as well as his dedication to the Department..

I didn't know Paul very well but his smile I sure did. He would collect all the younger siblings (his grandchildren and friends) at their brothers hockey games and take them to the canteen for treats. Nice memories from Grandpa. Condolences to the Cyr family..

I worked as a dispatcher and met Paul and became friends on his many visits to dispatch. He was quite the character who I became really fond of with his great sense of humour and kindness. In summer he would always bring us a frozen chocolate banana from The Bridge!! He was a great guy. My condolences to the family.

So sorry to hear of Paul's passing. My deepest condolences to your Family. Paul was a bit of a Mentor to me - always had something going on! My late wife Glenna and I had a lot of great times with Paul and Dawn and will miss him dearly. We went on ski trips together, curled on the same team for a few years and I had the pleasure of working with Paul for several years. RIP my Friend

I will remember Paul. He was truly a great person and im glad I got to meet him and know who he was. I will never forget the story he told me of when he was the fire cheif at one of the fire halls in winnipeg and it was tri level hall and he had a universal remote on his desk and when the firemen would go to watch TV he would turn it off from upstairs on them and they would freak out. He always had the biggest smile when he told that story. Paul was always quick with a joke as well and if you were feeling any other way then happy as soon as Paul saw you it felt like he made sure that you left your visit or dinner or whatever you were doing with him, with a big smile on your face, or a cracked rib from laughing so hard. We will miss you Paul. Sending love to all his family members. And May his memory be a blessing.
