William Daley

WILLIAM FREDERICK DALEY
January 4, 1934 – May 13, 2026
Dad was born in Capreol ON January 4, 1934, to Russell Daley and Regina Marie (Laderoute) Daley. He grew up in Northern Ontario and Toronto. As a teen he worked in a bakery while attending school.
At 17 he convinced his mom to allow him to enlist in the Royal Canadian Airforce (RAF) where became an aircraft mechanic. He was stationed in Germany, and travelled Europe and Africa.
Back in Canada he was stationed in Portage la Prairie where he met Jean Elizabeth Berryere (Mom) at a dance. They were married 4 months later. Their daughter Suzan Lee was born in Portage la Prairie.
Shortly after the family moved to Toronto. Dad was then transferred to Ottawa where son William Frederick JR was born 2 years later.
Dad was transferred to Edmonton AB, where he eventually decided to leave military life.
The family eventually settled in Oakville ON. He worked at the Ford plant while completing his GED. Dad became a firefighter in Oakville until a major car accident resulted in the family moving to Winnipeg MB. Dad became an aircraft mechanic for CAE. During this time, Dad volunteered for St John’s ambulance enjoying Blue Bomber and other games. A few years later the family moved to Selkirk MB where Dad became an adjuster for Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI).
After retirement, Mom & Dad decided to build a home in Arnes, Silver Harbour. They enjoyed the process of designing their own home. Dad worked hands-on with the trades he hired, constructing their house.
Due to Mom’s health issues they eventually moved to Gimli, and then back to Winnipeg.
When Mom passed away in 2016, Dad realized he could no longer cook and clean for himself and moved to Kiwanis Court.
He later moved to the Rosewood Retirement Home, memory unit where he quite enjoyed teasing the staff into giving him extra desserts. Dad had quite a sweet tooth.
Dad’s last move was to Deer Lodge Centre where he enjoyed Bingo games, often winning chocolate bar prizes. Military and Legion members often visited the veterans, and Dad enjoyed their visits very much.
