ELAINE DAVIS WEDEL

June 9, 1937 - November 23, 2023

On the evening of November 23, 2023, Elaine peacefully said goodbye to family and friends. Elaine is now with her husband, Jack; son David; brother Gerald; mom Edith; father Milton; brother-in-law Dick; and too many friends that have passed before her.

We take solace knowing that she is now no longer struggling with the physical body that created so many limitations on her free spirit.

Elaine leaves to remember her: her daughters, Jo Jo - Janis Holiday (Andy), Sharon Hole and Gloria Hole, the daughters whom she had a very special relationship with, Kim Davidson (Al), and Kelly Shelden (Mark); her sisters Betty and Sheila (Angus); grandchildren Alex Morrison – Holiday and Darian Holiday; extended family; her companion cat Annie; and many very dear friends.

Elaine was born in Kentville Nova Scotia where she was a burst of light through school and nursing college, dancing and grabbing life with gusto. She travelled and worked in many places as a Nurse before settling in Winnipeg and marrying Gordon Hole to build a family. She moved to Kenora, Ontario when her granddaughter Alex was born. She had met the love of her life, Jack, who cherished her so much. They enjoyed singing together in a variety of church and musical groups. Throughout her life she had created many friendships golfing, singing, painting, travelling, and most importantly spending time with her grandchildren Alex and Darian.

You would see Elaine throughout her life dancing, gardening, baking, hopping on her daughters or friends’ Harleys to feel the wind in her hair and a sense of freedom. She loved to sing in many church choirs and musical groups from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Florida, Winnipeg and Kenora enjoyed having her song. She would bake regularly and anyone around would benefit from the love that she created in the kitchen. Every family member is guaranteed to have homemade mitts, socks, scarfs, blankets that Elaine lovingly knit or crocheted as well as Christmas cards, birthday cards and paintings that she created with watercolor. These items are now cherished even more so now. We love and will miss you always.

The love in your heart;
The light in your eyes
Will dance forever in our hearts.

A celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2024 in Nova Scotia.

Elaine's family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Hello. I am Brenda Hattie, daughter of Nan and Jack Hattie, and Elaine was our babysitter when we were children in Kentville, but she was so much more than that. I did not know Elaine died in November,  As a little girl, I thought she was so cool; for one thing, she had a convertible! And she had a career and travelled, and in the 1960s, which was when the women's movement was heating up, she was doing everything a little girl hoped she could do when she grew up. At any rate, I wanted to say that my parents considered Elaine one of their daughters. They loved her very much, and she loved them back. When she came to NS, she would always make a point of visiting, and the last time I saw her, she drove in the driveway in a blue convertible!  We went for a spin, and had a great time.   When my mother was dying in a nursing home in Pictou in Feb of 2017, I called Elaine and told her.  I felt she should have the opportunity to say her goodbyes. By this point, my mother was sleeping a lot, but I put the phone to her ear, and Elaine spoke to her, telling her how much she loved her.  I know my mother heard her.  I see that there is a celebration of her life this summer in Kentville. I will try to get the information for date and location, but if any family members see this, please do contact me at brenda.hattie@msvu.ca. Brenda❤

Elaine and I met in Winnipeg about 60 years ago. Over the years we shared lots of good times, sad times, laughter and tears. It was wonderful to read her obit and see the video tribute as we have only had email, phone calls and card in these later years. Thank you for sharing.  I will miss our talks. She was a dear friend and full of such joy and zest for life.

This video gave me a real sense of who Elaine was in her younger self - filled with laughter and a zest of life.  Both of which she has passed onto you my dear friend Jo-Jo.  Saying good-bye is never easy.  Thank you for sharing. Sallie

I will miss Elaine so much. we discovered each other almost 30yrs ago and since that time, we spoke often. she was my confidante when I had no other and we shared many giggles and stories. I am so grateful I was able to spend some really quality days with her before she died  she is always in my heart and mind.
