DORIS DAVISON

(née Bisgaard)

20 May 1928 – 20 July 2021

After a long and full 93 years upon this earth, Doris May Davison went home to Jesus on July 20, 2021.  Doris’ devotion to Christ and her daily mission to “Seek Jesus First” was evident even as she drew her final breath. Her family is at peace knowing that Doris has joined her Savior.

Doris passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children who will dearly miss her. She is survived by her son Rod Davison; her daughters, Carla (Gordon) Mackay and Janis (Norm) Leong; her grandchildren, Blake (Jenny) Mackay, Amber-Dawn Davison, Christian Davison, and Joshua Davison. Doris has gone onto glory to join her husband Rod Davison and her grandson Luke Mackay who predeceased her.

An artist at heart, Doris saw Christ’s beauty in everything around her, whether it was perfect or imperfect. For so many years, she and her faithful terrier Ringo walked the river trails and tall-grass prairies near her home in Wildwood Park. She brought home leaves, flowers, and other woodland trophies, pressed them between the pages of heavy books, and created beautiful cards, paintings, and stained glass. Her hands were seldom still, and she created numerous treasures that she has left behind for friends and family to remember her.

Doris first love was Christ, and she was always ready to share God’s love. This strong unwavering faith brings peace and comfort to both friends and family. Even though they miss her, they celebrate that she is at peace with her Creator. We rest easy knowing that Doris has joined so many friends and family who have taken this journey before her.

A celebration of Doris Davison’s life will be held at a future date with a reception to follow at her home. In the meantime, Doris’s family kindly requests that her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos and/or sharing your own memories and stories using the comment section on this page.

Instead of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Siloam Mission (www.siloam.ca) in Winnipeg where she volunteered for so many years.

Carla and family… We are so very sorry to hear of Doris’s passing. She was our neighbour for over 25 years and we so enjoyed being able to have a nice chat in the back lane with her. She was always so incredibly positive about life, always wanted to know what the kids were up to and always assured us she understood when our dogs barked at her and Rocky as they passed by. It was very evident how proud she was of her family and how her smiled would light up when she spoke of you all. Our most heartfelt condolences to your family. Praying for peace for your hearts as you say goodbye.  Doug & Carol McKay

My husband and I offer our condolences to Rod, Carla, Janice and their families on the loss of their mother. Doris was a special person and friend. She was part of our little writing group of five that met each month for a bit of writing and lunch. In the beginning we went to a different restaurant in Winnipeg each month. Later we changed to taking turns at our homes; sadly one of our group passed away in 2009 but we continued meeting. The last several years we met at Doris’ home as she wasn’t driving anymore. (although sometimes she’d sneak away to Shopper’s Drugs in her little blue car – “shhh, don’t tell anyone!”). Doris told us stories of her nursing career and her husband Dr. Davison.. Two of the other women were nurses so the three of them would talk “nursing” experiences while we, the other two gagged and said “please don’t discuss this while we’re eating.” Doris had wonderful stories about growing up in Fife Lake, “On the Road to Mandalay” in memory of her brother Eric; “Walks with Ringo”; Outhouses, and Gerald the squirrel who lived in her yard. She could write poetry or haiku, romance and mystery. She made the most wonderful homemade cards that we’ve all kept. We have been blessed with many of her stained glass creations. She was proud of her family and talked of each you often. This past year was rough because of Covid and we couldn’t visit regularly in person although we often talked on the phone. I will miss those calls.    Sometimes in life, you find a special friend; someone who changes your life just by being part of it and makes the world special just by being in it. Doris, you are missed.

Dear Auntie Doris, You are now in the Communion of Saints in the fullness of the presence of the Lord. You were, and continue to be, my beloved Auntie. I thank you for your influence in my life. Your love, care and generosity will never be forgotten. Along with Uncle Rod, you helped me so much to navigate my faith journey and find my calling as a Priest. The attached photo is my last of you on 29 December 2019, just before the covid. Your smile was always a constant in my life as evidenced in this image with Amber, Carla and Lyn. Love you always, Mark+
