LAURENTIUS (LARRY) JOHANNES DEBEER

December 10, 1960 – November 15, 2025

Laurentius (Larry) Johannes DeBeer, born on December 10, 1960, in Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away peacefully with his wife at his side at the age of 64 on November 15, 2025.

Larry is survived by his loving wife Bernadine MacDonald; his daughter Hailey (Cody) and their children, Stiles and Declan; stepdaughter Christina; his siblings, Harry (Debbie), Wilma (Hilary), Mary Anne (Ted), Donna (Larry); mother-in-law Janice; numerous nieces and nephews; and longtime friends, Peter (Shelley) and Dave (Claudie). Larry was predeceased by his youngest brother Mike; mother Laurentia (née Van DerZwet); father Hendrikus DeBeer; and his first wife Cindy Sparling-DeBeer.

Larry was a kind-hearted and selfless man, known for his quick wit, sharp sense of humor and strong moral compass. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, Larry’s greatest joy was the family he so deeply cherished. He treasured summers at Tall Timber, often found by a crackling fire, boating down the river, casting a line, or getting lost in his latest science fiction novel. Whether it was a spirited game of Yahtzee or a reluctant game of Golf, Larry embraced every moment spent with the people he loved, usually with a drink in hand and laughter close by. With a true green thumb, Larry took pride in his yard and garden, never letting the grass grow unruly, a weed win or a leaf linger. He found peace in caring for the land, a gift and passion passed down lovingly from his mom and dad.

In memory of Larry, the family kindly requests that family and friends plant a red begonia in their own garden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit in Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Rest in peace,

until we meet again

Incredibly sad to hear of Larry's passing. My sincere condolences to his family. I had the pleasure of working alongside Larry at Assiniboine Park. He was an extremely kind and conscientious employee and someone I considered a friend. We were all better for knowing him!

We extend our sincere condolences to you and your family Bernadine.

We very much appreciate the kind gestures that you and Larry have extended to us over the years. Larrry always had a smile and a wave and always had a solution for my gardening questions no matter how basic they were.

Our thoughts are with you, always.

Yes sir, that's the guy always in the lead of the canoe and cautiously in back of mini bike pack. I always thought he had a bit of Clint Eastwood in him, often i was on the receiving end of getting the hairy eye ball when I didn't do things that met with his approval....a very close friend for 55 years, so so so many memories I'll cherish forever.

Bernie, Christina, and all of Larry's family;

Losing someone you love so much is the saddest event in life. Your memories of the years you shared with Larry, the funny moments he brought you, and the love and affection he showed you will bring you so much happiness and eventually will put a smile on your face to replace the tears.

My thoughts are with you.....
