JEAN AVIS DEE

1939 – 2025

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend Jean Avis Dee passed away at the age of 86 at her home in Winnipeg on Oct 31, 2025.

Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are her son Ronald; daughter Katherine (Gordon); grandchildren, Bradley (Delaine), Devon (Jenna), Ryan (Sam), Gordon; and great-grandchildren, Zoey, Bo, Mary Jane, Jay, Savannah and Shayna; and extended family Jeannie Clarkin (Alan, Jayce, and Alana).

Jean was predeceased by her youngest and oldest sons, Steven (1983) and Earl (2022); her parents, Hendly and Elsie Mooers; her brother Earl Mooers; long-time companion Herb Eichkorn; and extended family Colton Clarkin.

Jean was born and raised in South Hampton (Fredericton), New Brunswick. She started her own family in 1959 and had four children. Earl Donald (1960), Ronald Albert (1961), Katherine Patricia (1962) and Steven Mark (1968). Family roots were planted in Winnipeg where Jean raised her family as a single mother of four.

Spending time with family and friends was deeply important to Jean. Visits always ended with hugs to all. Time was spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she loved with all her being. If you were fortunate enough to be loved by Jean, her heart and home were always wide open. She was always generous with her time, advice, wisdom and never-ending support.

Jean was employed with the Province of Manitoba (Housing) for years where she made many life-time friends.

Jean loved to travel and was fortunate enough to visit many places including all of Canada, Europe, Hawaii, Jamaica, Bahamas, Mexico, Spain and the US. Many shopping trips were made to the US over the years with friends.

Jean loved to garden, and the greatest reward was the harvest. Once the freezer was stocked, the pickling done, Jean always provided fresh veggies to friends and those in need. Not only did she love to garden, but her passion was also cooking and baking. Homemade meals were the best, the baking platters were incredible and shared with all whom she loved.

Jean will be remembered as

humble, kind, generous and loving

and will be incredibly missed.

A celebration of “Jean's Journey” will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at  603 Wellington Cres (at Academy) – First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg.

Jeany Bean, as we fondly called her, was one of the most selfless people we knew. She was always there for everyone as she was for our own family with the loss of our mother and her good friend.. We loved her deeply and had so much fun over the years in our baking adventures. Our world has lost an angel, rest in peace sweetie, you have definitely earned it.

Jean was the toughest person I have ever known, and even through all her hardships, she was the kindest and warmest person as well. She never failed to let everyone in her life know they were loved and supported and genuinely found joy in helping others. She was a very special person and I'm incredibly lucky to have called her grandma. Miss you forever, love you always, Devon.

I was fortunate enough to eat one of Jean's favourite sandwiches that she made for herself. She was invited out for Lunch and asked me if I would like to have one of her favourite sandwiches It was a sandwich with turkey and turkey stuffing, cranberry sauce and Mayo, it was Delicious. I think of her every time I make myself one!

My condolences goes out to Jean's family. I worked with Jean at Manitoba Housing. She had a great sense of humor that made her a very easy person to work with. This picture sure reflects that.
