BARBARA DELAMATER

(NÉE SHORE)

October 29, 1944 – November 26, 2025

Barbara passed away peacefully at River Park Gardens on November 26, 2025 at the age of 81.

Barb is lovingly remembered by her son Nicholas Delamater and daughter-in-law Marie-Rose Delamater. She is also survived by her sisters, Patricia Porter and Charlotte Iwankow (Fred); sister-in-law Bonnie Shore; nephews, Bill Porter Jr. (Camille), Jim Porter (Aubrey) and Robin Shore (Heather); great-nephew Jordan Porter and great-niece Lindsay Shore.

She was predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Martha Shore; her brother Lawrence Shore; her sister Donna Shore; and her brother-in-law Bill Porter.

Barb was born in Winnipeg to parents Martha and Nicholas Shore and grew up in the North End immersed in Ukrainian culture. She married at a young age and gave birth to her son Nicholas.

Nick was her pride and joy, and she was a loving mother who raised her son to have a big heart just like hers.

One of her first jobs was working for Salisbury House as a server. She later became employed with Glazerman Furs as a salesperson, which eventually led to a career with Eaton’s in the fur salon. After Eaton’s closed their stores in Winnipeg, she worked as a sales associate for People’s Jewellers and The Bay.

Barb was an avid reader of fiction novels which included selections from Stephen King and Clive Cussler. After her retirement, one of her favourite pastimes was researching and collecting vintage glass pieces. She and her good friend Gail would spend many Saturday mornings at local garage sales or flea markets scoping out new treasures for their collection.

Barb always had a passion for travel and her desire to visit tropical destinations was finally fulfilled when she travelled to Hawaii in October 1991. Some of her other trips included Las Vegas and Acapulco.

After living in apartments for a good part of her life, she moved into her own house in 1994, that had been fully renovated with love by family and friends. She was very proud of her new home and loved to host family dinners. She loved to decorate her home for Christmas and took pride in hosting a traditional Ukrainian meal on Christmas Eve. She always enjoyed a good glass of wine and a few laughs with family and friends.

She will be remembered for her kindness and generosity, and will forever live in our hearts and memories.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents at River Park Gardens for the care and comfort they extended to mom over the past 11 years.

Remembrances in Barb’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.

In Accordance with their wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
