Christine Depoe

JANE (CHRISTINE) DEPOE
November 17, 1946 - September 5, 2025
Christine was born and raised in Winnipeg, the eldest child of Mary (née MacDonald) and Norman Depoe. Growing up in East Kildonan, she was surrounded by her parents' close-knit circle of pre and post–World War II friends who became like family. Her parents bought house after house to stay in the neighborhood. However, with five more siblings added to the family, the Depoes eventually moved across town to a larger home. Still, the friendships she made in those early years remained with her for life.
Christine adored spending time with her maternal grandmother and summers at Loni Beach with her grandparents. It was there that she discovered her lifelong love of Scrabble and Gin Rummy—games that later became a favourite tradition with her own grandchildren.
After graduating high school from Charleswood Collegiate, Christine began attending United College (now the University of Winnipeg). While attending United College, she met her first husband Jeff Schaub. Together, they welcomed two sons who were the loves of her life. Determined to finish what she started, she returned to U of W while in her 40s and proudly earned her bachelor’s degree.
In 1997, Christine married Bruce MacDonald who she’d known since grade school. Soon after, they moved to Turks and Caicos, eventually returning home to Winnipeg where Bruce passed away in 2016.
Christine believed in God and sought Him throughout her life. She marched for women’s equality and was an ardent supporter of human and animal rights. She loved visiting bookstores and sending and receiving cards, especially postcards. She enjoyed listening to the news and Jets hockey games on the radio
To her family, she was always “Deane.” A beloved sister, a proud mother, and a joyful grandmother, she was known for her kindness, thoughtfulness, and warmth. She is survived by her sons: George (Stacy) and Mark (Monique); her three cherished grandchildren: Anna, Maggie, and Rylan; her brothers: Ken (Pat), Rob (Sue), and Don (Jan); her sisters: Lois Haines (Murray) and Norma Stiles (Kevin); and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Jocelyn House hospice for their tender care. Anyone wishing to make a donation may do so at jocelynhouse.ca.
Jane’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

saw Christine when she was leaving the building by ambulance. Christine parked across from me always had a smile always said hi and we had good conversations. She certainly will be missed so long for now until we meet again. It's never goodbye again. It's so long for now until we meet again. .

I was so saddened to here that Deane has passed away. I will always remember her beautiful smile, the chuckle of her laughter and the wonderful person she was.
