ALVARO SEBASTIÃO DE SOUSA

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of Alvaro Sebastião De Sousa in the early hours of Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the age of 83 years at Riverview Health Centre.

Alvaro was predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Irene DeSousa; sister Angelina DeSousa; brother Francisco DeSousa; and nephew Alvaro DeSousa.

Leaving to cherish his memory is his loving wife Vidalia; son Pedro; daughter Christine (Dino); grandchildren, Nico and Amelia; his siblings, Manuel DeSousa, Maria Lourdes DeSousa, Maria Eduarda DeSousa, Antonio Sousa, Maria dos Anjos Moniz, Maria Teresa Faria, and Jose Luis Sousa; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Alvaro was born in S. Pedro, Portugal in 1940 and immigrated to Toronto, Ontario in 1973 and finally settled in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1981. He was a devoted husband, caring father, grandfather, and brother. Alvaro was a hard worker who dedicated his entire life to ensure his family were always taken care of. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, creating lasting memories which they will forever hold in their hearts.

In the summers, Alvaro spent most of his time enjoying the outdoors caring for his yard and vegetable garden. Alvaro was also a very passionate soccer fan. He was a benfiquistas, long time supporter of the Benfica Football Club. Watching Benfica soccer games brought Alvaro immense joy and excitement.

The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre AB2 for their kindness and compassion in Alvaro’s last days. A special thanks to Dr. Klaponski for always treating Alvaro with dignity and respect.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Parish (181 Austin Street) with Rev. Fr. Andre Lico officiating. Interment to follow at Holy Ghost Cemetery (4387 Main Street, West St. Paul). Pallbearers are Mario Raulino, Mitch Labuda, Marek Labuda, Aires Simao, Ryan Pischke, and Kyle Menezes.

In lieu of flowers, a donation in Alvaro’s name can be made to Riverview Health Centre.
