ROBERT "BOB" DIDUR

June 22, 1949 - June 26, 2020

With heavy hearts, we announce that Bob passed away on June 26, 2020 in the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 71, after years of dealing with diabetes.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Merry; son Shane (Leya), daughter Farrah, and son Ryan (Leslie); grandchildren Jordan, Lauren, Summer, and Trevin; and sisters Jo-Anne (Brian) and Judy.

Bob worked for CNR Railroad for 32 year, retiring in 2005. He spent the last 15 years traveling south for the winter, camping, fishing, golfing, and watching his favourite NHL and MLB teams. One of his favourite activities was to host friends and family for dinner and loved to talk and tell stories. In the last years he enjoyed riding his scooter around the neighbourhood talking to the neighbours and racing the kids on the way to the mailbox.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private celebration of Bob's life will be held when it is possible to gather. In the meantime, Bob’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos and/or sharing your own memories and stories using the comment section on this page.

Bob was always so much fun.  I don't think there was anyone who didn't love to hang out with him.  He was always welcoming and ready with hospitality.  He packed a lot of life into his too brief life.  I'm sure he is busy catching up with friends and family on the other side.  So sorry for your loss Merry, Shane, Farrah, Ryan and all the family.

Our deepest condolences to you Merry and your family.  Getting to know Bob over the years was a joy. Many great conversations with Bob, fun times, good laughs. We marvelled at Bob's strenght, warrior spirit and courage as he fought diabetes head-on. We believe he got a lot of that drive and resolve  from the incredible support and comfort that you Merry, and your family,  provided.  The tribute video is wonderful and gave us a glimpse into Bob's life. In the video we could feel that family was everything to Bob.  May Bob rest in peace. Our prayers will be that  God provide you all with comfort and support during this time. Isaiah 41:10

I was so sorry to hear of the loss of Bob. He was one of those people who always had a story or a joke to tell you, food & drinks to share. He came across as gruff on the outside but was a softie through and through. Beautiful photo montage - it gave me a smile to see that of course he had a Harley Davidson scooter. Ryan do you ever look like your dad in his younger years. Sending thoughts your way Merry, Ryan & Leslie and family.

Bob was one of the best people I ever worked with on the Railroad. No matter what was going on in your life, his easy demeanour, and stories let your mind drift to simpler times, and enjoy the journey. On one particular trip to Dauphin in the spring, he made me stop the train at every asparagus plant along the line, and he ran out and picked asparagus, and would come back and immediately cook it up on the engine. I am truly saddened by his passing. The last time I ran into Bob was many years ago at the gas station in Pembina, North Dakota. We were both fueling up. I was headed North, and he was headed South. I yelled out, "hey asparagus man". We talked a little, and he said " this motor home takes a fuck of a lot of gas". We laughed, and parted ways. Anyone who knew Bob carries a little of him in their hearts. We're all better people to have known him, a true gem of a human being. God Speed, my friend, it was a pleasure. Doug Perich ❤️😇

Hi Merry...I was your realtor at one time and helped you sell your home on Regatta Road and then purchase your next home on Reese Cove back in 1989.  As I was looking back recently at all the clients I have worked with over the years, I came across your names.  It was only now, that I found out about the passing of Bob in 2020. I moved to Victoria, BC in 1991 and have been on Vancouver Island ever since, but as a born and raised prairie boy, Winnipeg has and always will be in my heart.  I miss the people most of all.  Anyway, I just wanted to pass on my sincere condolences to you and your family and also take this moment to simply say,  "thank you" for allowing me to represent you in your real estate matters at that time.

I am heartbroken to find this obituary for Robert. Although we had never met in person he kept me up-to-date by email for years and our last email exchange was on my birthday back in 2020. I looked forward to his up-dates as he was so passionate against our fight. Music cereal condolences to his family. May you Rest In Peace.
