RICHARD LEO JOSEPH DIONNE

November 24, 1956 – February 1, 2022

With heavy hearts, we announce that Rick Dionne passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children on February 1, 2022, at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 65 years.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years Susan (Robertson) Dionne; children, Chantal (Jon) and Marc; grandchildren, Dominic and Abigail; siblings, Louise (Dave) Morgan and Lorraine (Rocky) Hovorka; nephews, Bobby (Debbie) Morgan, Cory Hovorka and Tyler (Penny) Hovorka; niece Melissa Hovorka; extended Robertson family and friends. Rick was predeceased by his parents Robert (Bob) and Irene.

Rick was born and grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He worked at Burns for 25 years. After, we moved to Woodridge, Manitoba where he was a School Bus Driver for 20 years.

Dad’s kind loving personality brought him friends wherever he went, and he was fortunate to have many close lifelong friends. Dad was a proud father and grandfather, who took the time to develop a special relationship and bond with his children and grandchildren.

Dad and Mom loved spending summers at their cottage in Beauty Bay, Ontario entertaining family and friends. He loved the lake life and driving his pontoon boat and watching his children and grandchildren playing in the water and on the beach. He enjoyed his annual boys golfing weekend at Beauty Bay. In winters, dad enjoyed fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling at their home in Woodridge.

Rick will be forever remembered for his passionate loyalty to his teams, the Bombers, the Vikings, the Blue Jays and the Jets. Dad organized a yearly NHL hockey draft pool for 40 years.

Rest in Peace Dad.

Rick’s family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff at St. Boniface ICM who provided excellent care to our dad.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of Rick’s life will be held at a later date. In the meantime, Rick’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Condolences to the family. My name is Ronald Nault & was close friends with Rick when he lived on Archibald Street in St. Boniface. We played many, many hours of sponge hockey, mostly at Petit Seminaire by the Seine River. Even if it was -40, the gang was out there playing. R.I.P. Rick

I would like to join Gil in his sentiments toward our boy Ricky ! One of the truly nice guys that all his friends are thankful for him being a part of their lives . On our boys weekends he was a great host , he was also known for his putting prowess , loved making the long ones ! But for all the time he spent at the poker table , you gotta wonder . I think his only excuse would be being distracted by his guests . It was a blast big guy ! We will see you on the other side and start up again where we left off ! Also my condolences to all his family .

Very, very saddened by the news of Ricks passing. Was looking forward to getting back up to Beauty Bay with Rick and the boys. Gonna miss you Big Guy! Many great times and memories over a few card games, drinks, boat rides, golfing and cursing our Vikings! Rick was the best host EVER! Always cooked great meals for all of us.  My sympathies and condolences go out to Susan, Chantal, Marc and your family. May you take comfort in knowing that Rick was a GREAT person who was loved by many. Gilbert Chartier (friend)

Susan my condolences to you and your family. Rick was one of the true good guys and I was proud to call him a friend. Whenever I was at Beauty Bay one of my favourite things to do was jump in the golf cart and head up the hill to visit Rick. Gary Yuel Friend

Sending my condolences to Rick's wife, children and grandchildren as well as all his friends. Rick was a heck of a nice guy. He will be missed is an understatement. Always friendly and ready to help anyone who was in need. I know when someone attempted to drive thru his stop sign on his bus, he would have a serious chat with them and not mince words. He was an awesome bus driver. The students all liked him very much. Route 19 Rick Rest in Peace💗 Drove 16 years with Rick Noelline Reith
