LORETTA DIXON
(née MCGILLVRAY)
December 11, 1939 - June 12, 2022
Loretta passed away peacefully in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 12, 2022, at the age of 82. One of six children, she was born in Portage la Prairie to Viola (née McAskie) and Jack McGillvray. She grew up in Austin, Manitoba.
After high school, Loretta worked in Brandon and Winnipeg where she met and married Wayne Markle of Carberry, Manitoba. Together they had three children, Sherry, Jacqueline and Russell. Loretta later married Ivan Dixon, and they spent many happy years together before his passing in 2007. She and Ivan shared a love of music and dancing. After Ivan’s death, Loretta moved to Winnipeg and lived there until her passing.
Loretta is lovingly remembered by her children, Sherry (Cliff), Jackie (Kevin) and Russell; her grandchildren Chris (Jen) and Tim (Ashley) Ferguson, Shaun Martin and Jaime (Landon) Rice, step grandson Clayton (Andrea) Block; great grandchildren Leland, Aela, Ceci and Evren Rice and Austin, Brayden, Alli, Travis and James Block. She will also be greatly missed by her brother Wesley (Janet) McGillvray, sisters Annie (Robert) McGillvray and Jan McGillvray, and her very special friend John Middleton; as well as many nieces and nephews; along with all of her friends. Loretta was predeceased by her husband Ivan Dixon, parents Jack and Viola McGillvray, sisters Hazel Schmidt and Marlene Gunn, brother in law James Gunn, and nephew Murray Gunn.
Loretta's career included working for different banks, Swan Valley Co-op and Credit Union, as well as Hunt Motors and Powell Motors. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, visiting and sharing stories. Loretta and her good friend John spent many hours together these last years.
