Chuck Doman

FREDERICK CHARLES (CHUCK) DOMAN
July 17, 1931 – June 14, 2025
It is with deep sadness the family of Chuck, 93, announces his passing with loved ones by his side.
Chuck was predeceased by his parents and his son Donald Gordon Doman.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 71 years, Joyce Doman; his 3 daughters (Charlie’s Angels), Terry (Bob) Makowski, Colleen (Tim) Dow, and Denise (Ray) Cheys. Chuck was also a proud grandfather to Charlene (Julie), Robyn (Greg), Scott, Jared (Chelsey), Amanda (Joel), Alisyn (Steph), and Lyndon (Kaitlyn). A great grandfather to Noah, Karaleigh, Leo, Tobaias, Solange, Greyson, and Donny. He is also survived by his loving sister Margaret Kowalson (Aaron); and his nephews, Michael (Alix), Josh (Karen) and Danny.
Our Father’s life began in Rainy River, Ontario where he was born. He loved small town life in the ‘30’s with his many cousins in both Rainy River ON and Baudette MN., where in later years, many family reunions were held. When dad was in grade 7 the family moved to Winnipeg where he continued his education at St. Mary’s and St. Paul’s HS.
Our parents met while participating in one of their favourite sports, a baseball tournament in Gunton MB. Dad courted mom and they were married on October 17, 1953. They resided in Windsor Park for 45 years where they developed a deep relationship with Ernie and Irene Marchand who lived next door. During this time Dad was very active in many different organized sports through Winkawa Community Club. He coached Little League baseball (always the Braves), hockey and football. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Winakwa Community Club through his 21 years of dedicated volunteer positions. Many lifelong relationships were born during this time.
Dad was passionate about sports! All Sports! In 1971, Dad, along with Bill Elliot, Al Gaudet, and Bill Amudson founded the St. Boniface Riels Major Junior Hockey Club. During his tenure as Assistant Coach, the team was very strong, competitive and successful. They had a fabulous winning record. He was very proud of this accomplishment.
As a sports enthusiast Dad did have his favourite teams.
To name a few:
• NHL – The Winnipeg Jets (season ticket holder 1.0)
• CFL – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers
• MLB – The Cincinnati Reds
• NFL – The Cincinnati Bengals
• Horse Racing – Triple Crown
• Curling
• We would also include Tennis, Boxing, Basketball, etc, etc, etc.
Charlie’s Angels are very proud of Dad’s recognition awards. These honours include:
• Volunteer recognition for hockey (top 200 of the Century)
• Founders Award for the St. Boniface Riels Major Junior Hockey Club
• Master Angler (even tho it was a catfish)
• Achievement Award for 47 years of dedicated service to the printing industry.
• Active member of the Knights of Columbus since 1996.
• Member of St. Bernadette Parish since 1961.
• Won a Junior Provincial baseball title with the Columbus Club in 1952.
• In 1999 Dad volunteered for the Pan Am Games
Dad spent his entire career in the printing business. His knowledge, skill, and dedication to the profession was highly regarded by his peers. Dad retired from Kromar Printing in 1996. Now Joyce and Chuck were free to travel. Places like Apache Junction AZ, Napes FL, and BC to name a few. When they weren’t traveling outside of Manitoba they were busy travelling to hockey rinks, volleyball courts, swimming pools, soccer fields, basketball courts, Christmas Concerts, band concerts, piano recitals, sponge hockey rinks, theater productions, graduations from Kindergarten, High School and University and any other activities their grand kids participated in.
Dad’s greatest joy were his grandchildren. His back porch fridge was always stocked for both adults and kids. The pool was vacuumed and heated and the flowers were blooming (thanks Mom). It was there, around the pool, he could sit back, partake in a libation or two and take pleasure in watching his grandchildren having fun in the pool for hours on end. This is the place where so many wonderful memories were made.
In 2006 Mom and Dad sold their house in Windsor Park and moved to Vic Wyatt Place and resided there for 15 years. They met many wonderful people and once again, established more friendships. In 2021 they moved to Dakota House and again, with Dad’s outgoing and friendly personality, he made friends with the staff and residents quickly.
Charlie’s Angels would like to thank all of Dakota House Staff including management, housekeepers, dining room servers (his fav’s), and residents for making Dad’s last 4 years enjoyable. He loved you all. Thanks to all of his home care workers for all your dedication to Dad’s care *Thanks Eden*.
To the Grace Hospital … Emergency Dept -Nurse Hazel, Nurse George and Doctor McGillvary. Staff on the 3rd floor south - Nurse Renee and support staff, we can’t thank you enough for your kind, gentle, and professional attention. You made Dad’s final journey peaceful.
Thank you DAD (PAPA) for all your unconditional love and your strength through the years. You are our HERO! Miss you and love you forever. Don’t worry about Mom. We’ll make sure she’s safe and well taken care of. She will miss your Sunday visits at Charleswood Care Centre.
A private memorial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Parkinson’s Society, The Alzheimer’s Society, or a charity of your choice.
Chuck’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Heartfelt condolences to all of the Domans and their families. Mr. Doman was truly one of a kind. He was always welcoming, and known for a great sense of humour, with a genuine laugh that I can still hear. Don and I were brothers. I spent many evenings in the Doman’s basement watching Stanley Cup playoffs, World Series, and other sporting events … and cranking music when Mr. & Mrs. Doman weren’t home. Denis, Don and I started many days poolside at the Doman’s before venturing out to late night adventures in and around Windsor Park. Mr. Doman was the best baseball coach ever - great teacher of the game and he cared about every player. He had a nickname for everyone. The attached picture is the champion Winakwa Braves in Little League. Chuck Doman was the “King of Bibeau Bay” and will be missed. I loved the man. Rest in peace.

Chuck & Joyce were such a wonderful addition to life here at Vic Wyatt House & were greatly missed when they moved to Dakota House. My oldest granddaughter played high school hockey & Chuck took a real interest in her & the team. Every time I saw him he would ask "how many goals did our girl get last night?" He jokingly asked her for an autograph when he met her.....made her day! RIP Chuck.

Sincere condolences to the entire Doman family from the Art + Carol McOuat family. Our mom and Chuck/Joyce would meet together at many high school reunions and laugh about the good old times. Talk always seemed to go back to the Winakwa days of hockey and football and how many hours of volunteer work that our dad and Chuck would put in for the love of the sport. Memories that she cherishs a lot.
Growing up and playing hockey + football with Don, I still can here Chuck's voice over all the other parents, passing on encouraging comments to us players, and also welcoming comments to the opposing teams!!!!!! More than once, we players would stop and look up wo see what was happening and always had a good laugh, as it would break the tension in those games. Thank you Chuck for those memories!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

Mrs. Doman, Terry, Colleen, Denise and families,
Pat and I offer our sympathy and deepest condolences to the Doman family. I don’t remember much of my youth without Mr. and Mrs. Doman in it. Mr. Doman, a term I proudly use out of respect for him, was always interested and so willing and easy to talk with whenever our paths crossed over 60 plus years.
Our fondest memories are of our summer visits back to Winnipeg and how welcoming your Mom and Dad were to our family when we arrived next door. The convenient gate between my Mom and Dad’s and your parents’ yard was our kids gateway to the hospitality of the Doman’s and the oasis they created in their beautiful yard surrounding the pool. From when they were little kids learning to swim, to becoming teenagers, to adulthood, all three hold cherished memories to this day, of those experiences at the Doman’s and were saddened by the news of your Dad’s passing.
In recent years we had the chance to visit with your Dad several times at Dakota House where we could get caught up and as usual, he always asked for an update on our kids. Our last special memory of Mr. Doman was at my Mom’s funeral service two years ago, surrounded by our kids and their families all with big smiles in deep conversation.
Terry, Colleen and Denise, your tribute to your father was a beautiful account of his life. Each of our children, upon reading the tribute had the same response, what a great tribute!
Your Dad was a very special person who made a big difference in my parents and our family’s lives.
May he rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Ray and Pat Marchand

Teresa,
So sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad, I am thinking of you, your family, Colleen and Denise and their families, and your Mom Joyce during this sad time.
When I lived next door to you guys in Windsor Park many many years ago, I remember your Dad being a strict disciplinarian (as he had to be with 4 kids, who fought like cats and dogs, and got into varying amounts of mischief), but also a man who was very proud of his family and their accomplishments, and a "softy" in many ways. I also remember our Dads, and some of the neighbours getting together, while we children of the neighbourhood, had a great time playing in the street., sometimes with our Dads joining in. Oddly enough, I also remember being envious of some of the delicious meals you your Dad cooked for you guys when your Mom was working. To this day, every time I cook a roast beef I think of the aroma in your house when your Dad was cooking one! He was truly a man of many talents.
Take comfort in the many happy memories of your Dad, I am thinking of you.

My condolences to the Domans family. Will always remember when Chuck would drop by Echo Bay to visit my Dad. Chuck always had the smile to make you feel welcome. But I will remember line that Chuck said and I use.
"One hell of a deal."

As a little league player playing the so called hot corner ( third base ) the ball comes at you pretty hot. Hence the name. One particular hot one got between my legs and Coach Doman yells " Ste Marie , don't be afraid to get low on the ball. The worst that can happen is a bloody nose or a black eye. The best coach I ever had. Any sport. Rest in peace Chuck you will be missed.
