MILDRED DORY-ELLIS

May 10, 1925 - Dec 31, 2021

With heavy hearts, we announce that our mom Mildred passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital on Dec 31st at the age of 96 years.

She will be missed by her daughter Lesley, son Darryl and daughter-in-law Lynn.  She was predeceased by her husbands George and  Esau, her mom Alice, her dad Hiram, her sister Beryl and her brother Wilson.

Mildred lived in Ashern, MB until 1949 when she moved to Carberry MB where she set up a hairdressing and tailoring business in her home.  In 1958 she moved to Winnipeg and became a hairdresser at the Nu Fashion Beauty Salon at Portage and Donald until  she retired in 1986.  She worked hard, often starting at 6am to make sure her customers who worked at Eatons had their hair done.  She always claimed that she wasn't booksmart, but give her a sewing, knitting, crocheting or craft pattern and she was able to do it, the more complicated the better.  She even went through a phase where she was oil painting along with TV's Bob Ross.

She was a giver and her friends, family, neighbours, doctors and dentists were recipients of many of these projects.  Mom also had a Green Thumb.  She would spend a couple of hours everyday in the summer tending to her plants which were beautiful.  Meat and potatoes cooking was her forte.  Everything she made was very tasty and she did Xmas Dinner every year until she turned 93.  Lastly she was an animal lover.  She loved her pomeraniums Trudeau, Mila, Cory, Kujo, Buddy and her dachshund Heidi and finally Carly her Lhasa Apso.

A private service will be held at a later date at the  Ashern United Church where her ashes will be interred in the family plot with her Mom, Dad and Brother.

The family would like to thank the staff at Seven Oaks for their care and compassion.  In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice.
