DIANE DOWLER

It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Diane Dowler surrounded by family and friends at her residence on November 12, 2022 at the age of 75 years and 1 day. Mom was predeceased by her parents Dan and Olive Pynoo, her in-laws Ivan and Iona Dowler and her husband of 46 years Dan Dowler.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Cathy (Cam), Debbie (Bob), son Darcy, special daughter Christina, and honorary sisters Pat Oleksuk and Joan (Ron) Ryland. Grandchildren Josh, Jordon, Maddie, Sarah (Matt), Sarah (Nick), Grace (Mac), Mackenzie, Hannah, Lily and Abby (Ryland). Great Grandchildren Owen, Aria, Amelia, JJ and Jonah.

Mom is also survived by her sister in-law Gayle Dowler and many nieces, nephews, friends and special god daughter Donna (nee Ryland).

Mom was a hockey Mom to the core and spent many hours at the rink with Dad cheering Darcy on. They went on many hockey trips and always had so much fun with all the other dedicated hockey parents (you know who you are).

Nothing made her happier than her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an amazing Nana and Great Nana and as a Nana myself (Debbie) I have always tried to be just like her.

While Mom was sick, she spoke to a lot of doctors, nurses and health care providers and she made sure to tell every single one of them that her daughter Cathy was a nurse and her chest would puff up with pride.

Mom and Dad really enjoyed their time at their place in Lac Du Bonnet and made many lifelong friends at Heather Game and Fish. As a family we always went to the Rylands for Christmas Eve and that was a highlight of the year. In their later years Mom and Dad travelled with Pat and Doug Oleksuk south of the border where they had great times and a lot of laughs. There were also the trips to Hawaii with Aunty Judy and Cousin Dan. Mom always spoke of those trips with such fondness.

Although Mom had the terrible diagnosis of pancreatic cancer in September she never cried about it, in fact she just looked at me and said “well I guess I gotta fight this thing” and she did. Mom wanted to remain at home and we made that possible for her. As her birthday approached and Cousin Dan was coming, we knew that’s what she was waiting for. Then one day past her 75Th birthday as we were all sitting around looking at pictures talking and laughing about the good times we’ve had, she decided to quietly leave us and join Dad. She will be forever loved and missed by all who knew her.

Love you Mama!

Celebration of life will take place Saturday December 3, 2022 from 1pm-4pm at the All Saints Ukrainian Church located at 1500 Day Street in Transcona.

I was very saddened to hear about Diane. We played in the same baseball league but didn't get to know each other until our Moms were both on the second floor at Park Manor. We spent many Bingo games volunteering even after we both lost our Mom. The volunteers got together once or twice a year as well. I will miss her and her special Christmas treats. My deepest condolences to the family on the loss of a wonderful lady.

Deepest sympathies to all of Diane’s family. She was one of the best people I ever worked with. She trained me when I started at RBC 44 years ago in Transcona, then we worked together again at Munroe and Northdale. she was an amazing and kind person. Always enjoyed seeing her and Dan. Very sorry that she has left us all too soon. An amazing woman!

What to say about one of the most generous people we know.  Diane was always ready to help anyone in any way.  Like her mom, no one ever went hungry at her house.  Her cooking and 'fix-it' skills were second to none.  She stepped up for us in a big way when we were at a very low point and took over the food preparation without a second thought. Diane will be missed by so many of us. Mandy and Terry

I met Diane many years ago on Trembly street while visiting my cousins Candace and Louise. I had not seen her in many years until her mom was at Park Manor. We met and started our friendship again volunteering for bingo together.  We also formed a group of other volunteers to go for coffee after bingo every Tues. and Fri.  We all became friends.    I will miss your holiday treat bag filled with nuts and bolts and your smile that went with it.  You were a very good friend to me. RIP..

Thinking about all the good times with Diane growing up on Tremblay Street. We were a close bunch of girls growing up and shared many great experiences. My husband Marvin and I reconnected with Diane and Danny in Calgary, where we spent many weekend evenings playing games while “ the kids” , Debbie and Barbara slept in the bedroom. Diane was always a wonderful cook and baker, her pies were the best! We reconnected again when both our Mothers, Emma and Olive, were in Park Manor. Diane was always ready to help her friends and we are sad to hear of her passing. Rest In Peace Diane. Candace (Mourant) and Marvin Groberman Austin, Texas

We are saddened to have lost a treasured member of our family.  Diane was a profoundly kind and caring person who invariably put the needs of others ahead of her own.  She was incredibly capable and yet humble.  We will never forget her quick wit, her infectious sense of humour and her courage to stand by her convictions.  Diane was the best of us.  Rest in peace Diane.  You are loved.  John and Dolores Dowler

Dear Diane's Family, Memories of Diane go way back to the prettiest girl on Tremblay Street with the bouncy blonde head of curls; Her birthday parties at Grampa Pynoo's basement (always a luxurious Jeanne's cake); her skating recitals at the Winter Club; her mom's apricot squares. Tremblay Street families were close. How many times the Belgian Pynoos and Mourants got together for Chinese Food on Belgian Independence Day after the parents spent the day at the Belgian Club drinking free beer! Much later, when our mothers who had lived across the street were now across the hall at Park Manor, we reconnected the families. Rest in peace, Diane.
