ROBERT “BOB” GRAHAM DOWNING

June 21, 1955 – August 20, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce that Bob Downing has passed away on August 20th at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 69.

He is survived by his brother John (Darlene); children, Adam (Jennifer), Sean (Alison), and Travis; grandchildren, Ava, Claire, Logan and Diana.

Bob was a generous and caring brother, father, and grandfather. He grew up enjoying the rural life in Charleswood. Bob loved to fondly reminisce about his days at Saint John’s Cathedral Boy’s School. He was an avid outdoorsman, often talking about his many canoeing, snowshoeing, and ski adventures. He spent most of his career in the printing business and finished his working life at H20 Innovation. Bob was a proud alumnus of the Charleswood Hawks, a supporter of the Winnipeg Satellites, and a proud fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets. Aside from this, some of Bob’s favourite sporting moments were watching his sons play hockey, basketball, football and karate.

In Accordance with his wishes, cremation will take place at a later date, and a private celebration of his life will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, the Kidney Foundation of Canada, or a charity of your choosing.

Bob’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Sincere sympathies to John and family. I knew Rob in high school and saw him at social events on weekends. I would find out how he was doing through the years when I ran into John occasionally. Keeping the family in my thoughts and prayers. Keep your memories alive in your hearts. Rest in peace.

As youngsters and adolences, John, Rob, the Fulthorpes, myself and my brother, Ron spent many a weekend afternoon in the middle of Cuthbertson playing street hockey.....and the occassional "bumper shine" in the winter.

What great memories!

Rest in piece, Rob.

I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Bob. He was a cherished colleague and friend. Bob and I worked together at H2O Innovation for over 10 years. Bob's kindness, wisdom, and warmth left a lasting impact on me and I considered it a priviledge to spend time with him. Please accept my heartfelt condolences to Bob's family. My wonderful memories of Bob will be told with joy, celebration, and laughter. Be well Bob.

So sorry to learn of Bob's passing. He was one of a group of guys in the early days in the printing field that got together for "bubblies" on either Thur./Fri. night. I always enjoyed our conversations, Bob's smile, laughter & manly voice that will never be forgotten!

I had the distinct pleasure of knowing Rob for a number of years and calling him my friend. You've heard the saying, "he'd give the shirt off his back!" Well... Rob would literally give you the shirt off his back. He was so full of life and always had a huge smile on his face. You always knew Rob was in a room as you could hear him clear over on the other side. He had that distintive baritone voice and a laugh to go with it. Rob loved life, his boys and his grandchildren especially. Sports was his second love and you could usually find him hanging around a stadium or an arena somewhere. We've lossed another good one but I know they'll be happy to embrace him. Fly high my friend.
