SHERRI LYNN MARY DRABOT

It is with extreme sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved sister Sherri, on Friday, April 15th, 2022, in her home at the age of 67.

​

She was predeceased by her mother Sylvia Tait (Drabot) in 2012, and by her father Mike Drabot in 2018. Left to cherish her memory are her brothers: Michael, and wife Linda, Brett and partner Roberta.

​

She will be fondly remembered by her niece’s, Jennifer, Brook, Madison, Albany, Jana and Danielle, as well as her great nieces and nephews, and sorely missed by her cousins and many close friends.

​

Sherri was born in St Boniface, and in her early years spent a short time in North Vancouver with the family, prior to returning to Winnipeg for most of her life. She was a very content and happy child, loved the outdoors, and many family cats. Sherri attended school in Ft Rouge, and quickly became somewhat of a socialite She enjoyed and did very well in school. Often, she would like to have parties with her friends in our family home, when the parents were away. As she was the oldest, she was placed in charge of her younger two brothers, and she would sometimes give us a bit of cash to keep our lips sealed about these parties. Sherri loved to visit and spend time with her mother’s parents, who lived a short walk from our house, and always looked forward to going to our Auntie’s houses to play with her “best friend” cousins.

As a young adult Sherri would always hang out at the local diner “The Pit” playing music on the jukebox and socializing with friends. She liked to hang out with some of the local group of Harley riders and classic car collectors. Music was a soul soother for Sherri, as was writing poetry, and sitting outside in the sun.

​

Throughout her life Sherri had many jobs and went to the University of Winnipeg taking English and creative writing courses that landed her some work in Radio and Journalism. Sherri enjoyed traveling when she had time off work, sometimes out to Vancouver to visit, and she went on a few “Sun Fun” getaway destination trips with friends/partners.

​

She later attended Red River, taking a Health care aide program and the Red Cross safety program. Sherri went on to working multiple home care jobs and worked in a group home for a few years assisting people who were recovering from brain injuries. She received very high praises from her coworkers and employers. Unfortunately, after working in the health world for quite some time Sherri began to struggle with her own health issues and suffered some back injuries from lifting patients.

As her health continued to suffer and her body was not recovering well, she shifted employment into the phone and online venue. Sherri enjoyed working from home, living with her pets, caring for her beautiful plant collection, writing poetry and enjoying her favorite television shows. She studied Astrology and had a strong attachment and belief in that, and with her associated groups on her Facebook page. She also would constantly be on the phone with all her family and friends. Sherri had a major clown collection that she loved to share stories about, explaining the details and where each one came from.

Sadly though, as her health issues became more severe in nature Sherri was unable to go for long walks and do very much visiting outside of her apartment block. Fortunately, she did make some very close and loving relationships with a few people in her block, and they were very good to her.

Sherri always gave of herself, she had a BIG heart, good work ethic, was very caring and kind, and possessed a very sweet loving nature.

We love you Sherri, you will forever be our “Sweet Soul Sister”.

​

On Saturday May 7th, Sherri’s celebration of Life will held at 1pm at the Unitarian Church auditorium, 603 Wellington Crescent @ Academy Rd.

​

Cremation has taken place as per her wishes. Flowers are gratefully declined and if you so wish, donations may be made to either the local Canadian mental health association or the Humane society.
