SHIRLINE DUFF

(née Haggart)

March 9, 1933 – October 3, 2026

Peacefully, on October 3, 2026, Shirline Duff (née Haggart) passed away at the age of 93.

Shirline was predeceased by her first husband, Ross Duff, in 1980; her second husband, James Richardson, in 2009; and her beloved son, Bruce Duff.

Mom leaves to cherish her memory her children Gord (Tilde), Dick, and Bonnie (Bruce); her brother Kirk (Loretta); and her granddaughters Samantha (Peter), Christina (Darnell), Amanda, and her youngest granddaughter and special companion, Tymara-Lee (Devon). She will also be remembered by her nine great-grandchildren: Shyla, Michael, Kieron, Kaliah, Nataya, Kingston, Jayden, Hartlyn, and most recently, Dash, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Shirline was one of ten siblings. In 1970, she moved to Winnipeg, where she began working at the famous Nutty Club Factory. In 1975, she began what would become a 19-year career at the Winnipeg Convention Centre, retiring in 1994.

But retirement didn't last long. When her granddaughter Tymara started kindergarten in 1999, Mom returned to work at the lunch program at Brooklands School. It was a job she truly loved. To the children there, she quickly became everyone's grandma. She worked at the school for 11 years and only left after breaking her hip.

Mom loved Bingo, and she and James—affectionately known as Papa—loved to travel. They were always ready for another road trip. No matter where it was held, they attended every truckers' reunion they could. They also made their annual trip to the Morris Stampede and regularly attended the Dauphin Ukrainian Festival, despite the fact that neither of them were Ukrainian. They simply loved the atmosphere, the people, and having a good time.

Mom was also an incredible baker, and everyone was very happy when she decided to bake. Butter tarts, cakes, cookies, and Nanaimo squares were just some of her specialties. Her famous pecan tarts, however, were reserved for a very special few—and those people know exactly who they are. Her oldest granddaughter is the only one who has successfully managed to recreate Mom's butter tart recipe, a treasured piece of her legacy that will undoubtedly be passed down for generations.

Mom will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her. While the last few years brought the challenges of dementia and slowly took away pieces of the woman we knew, we find comfort in knowing that she lived a long, full life surrounded by family and love. At 93 years old, she gave us a lifetime of memories, laughter, traditions, recipes, stories, and love.

We will miss her dearly, but we are grateful she is now at peace and no longer suffering.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Centro Caboto Centre, Café 13. 1055 Wilkes Ave .

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Alzehiemers Society in Shirline's honor.
