HAZEL DUNLOP
May 31, 1931 – October 22, 2024
While cradled in her daughter Irene’s arms, Hazel peacefully passed away on October 22, 2024 at River East Personal Care Home.
Hazel was born May 31, 1931 in Darlingford, Manitoba, the fourth of six children. While life was not easy for her family, Hazel had a way of introducing humour into each of her stories. Her children and grandchildren will never forget her storytelling with tears of laughter rolling down her cheeks. She was incredibly artistic and excelled at any hobby she took a shine to, ceramics, rock polishing, floral arranging and oil painting are but a few of her many talents. Not to mention cooking and of course while doing so, having to dirty every pot, pan and dish in the kitchen. Hazel’s home was always open and welcoming. You would never leave there without having a hot cup of coffee and a little something (usually, way to much…) to eat. Her yard was a showplace and she certainly had a green thumb. Each year she planted Canna lilies by the hundreds along with her red, and only red, geraniums.
Once her family had grown and left home, Hazel worked for many years at Robin’s Donuts on St. Mary’s Road. A job she truly loved and she looked forward to going to work every day. Unfortunately, an injury brought on early retirement in 1993.
First and foremost to Hazel was her love for her husband Frank and her five children. Hazel was predeceased by her beloved Frank in 1985; her son Wayne; daughter-in-law Gerry; her grandson Cory Green; her parents, Frederik and Lydia Pohl; her in-laws, Robert and Olive Dunlop; her sisters, Martha Waddington, Olga Stubbe, and Margaret Pospishell; and brothers, Sam and Eric Pohl.
She is survived by her daughters, Margie (Ron) Leonard of Steinbach, MB., Irene (John) Raines, and Debbie (Gordon) Green; son Darcy Dunlop (Patty Gerard) all of Winnipeg. Also cherishing her memory are 11 grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren; countless nieces and nephews who all adored their Auntie Hazel; and her sisters-in-law, Lil Pohl of Morden and Arlene Dunlop of Winnipeg.
Hazel’s family would like to thank all the Hope Haven staff at River East Personal Care Home for their loving kindness and compassion. We cannot find the words to say that would express what is in our hearts. Angels do walk among us.
A Celebration of Hazel’s Life will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 603 Wellington Crescent (Unitarian Church). In lieu of flowers, donations in Hazel’s name can be made to The Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba or an animal shelter of your choice.
Hazel’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Your Mom was such a wonderful, kind lady. I was always interested to see which craft she'd be working on when I'd go over to play at Debbie's house. At the time, she was doing alot of liquid embroidery, and it was fascinating to watch! Thinking of you all with fond childhood memories and sending heartfelt condolences to all of you.

Never a trip to Winnipeg went without a visit. Always good for a laugh. She always had a good giggle when she asked me what's in that purse? I said why you like it yes I like it good then you can have it LOL many a time I left with a little garbage bag and the contents of my purse and left the purse that she liked not that she used it LOL but she got it. And never a trip to her house without a good cup of coffee and something out of the canister on the counter.
