EVELYN RITA DUTKA

Evelyn Rita Dutka (née Wilcott), 67, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away at home surrounded by her family on August 9th, 2026, after a long battle with lung cancer.

She is survived by her husband Kirk Dutka; daughters, Stephanie Dutka (Monte), Jessica Dutka (Warren); her grandchildren, Sophie and Daniel Shaff; her sisters, Susan Dugard and Lucille Canart; and her beloved dog, Sam.

She was pre-deceased by her brother, Renée Wilcott, and her parents, Hortense Jeanson and Julian Wilcott.

Evelyn was born on September 26th, 1958, in Pine Falls, Manitoba. She had fond memories of getting into misadventures with her extensive network of friends and cousins. She inherited a deep and lasting love of nature from her father, which carried on into her later life, when she enjoyed fishing and camping with friends and family.

She attended the University of Manitoba studying interior design and architecture, before leaving for a career in drafting and the engineering field, becoming the first woman to be certified as a drafter in Manitoba. Her passion, work ethic, analytical mind and attention to detail allowed her to excel in her career and led her to her final role as a senior policy analyst for the provincial government.

She met her future husband Kirk through friends, and they developed an enduring friendship and love that carried them through the many ups and downs of their decades together. Her daughters Stephanie and Jessica were the lights of her life, and she dedicated herself to being a caring and attentive mom. She was thrilled when her grandchildren Sophie and Daniel were born and loved spoiling them!

Her husband’s job took her across Canada, and her sense of humor, outgoing personality, and zest for life ensured that she created enduring friendships wherever she went. She enjoyed playing baseball, singing and playing guitar, bingo, and was an avid reader. Evelyn made a lasting impression on everyone she met, and we know her memory will live on in the hearts of many.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on August 18th at 603 Wellington Crescent at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg.
