STEVEN JOHN ELLIS

December 28, 1959 – April 17, 2024

Steven Ellis passed away peacefully on April 17, 2024 at the Health Sciences Centre due to complications from his heart transplant.

He was born in Winnipeg on December 28, 1959, the second child to Noella and Wilfred Ellis. He is survived by his sister Dawn, brothers Wilf (Teresa) and Tim, many nieces and nephews, friend Edith, godchildren Dennis and Sally; as well as his good friend Will.

Steven was a very caring individual and was always willing to help others. He would often coordinate donations of food to be distributed to individuals in need in his building. He always had a positive attitude and one of his favorite things to do was spending time with his godchildren Dennis and Sally. They were like grandchildren to him and he loved to spoil them rotten; they were his world.

Steven had a passion for cooking and earned the title of Sous Chef. He made the “best” Rack of Lamb, and his steaks were always cooked to perfection by touch! His cinnamon buns were out of this world. Steven also had a love for the outdoors and looked forward to gardening; he would plant both vegetables and flowers; he just loved his sunflowers.

The family would like to thank the Heart Transplant Team at St. Boniface Hospital, the ICU staff (7th Floor) at the Health Sciences Centre and Dr. Jhooty for their care and compassion.

A service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the St. Charles Parish located at 320 St. Charles Street, Winnipeg.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Steven’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Steve and I dated in high school and went to JT Grad together in 1978. We dated for two fun filled years! I still wear the earrings he gave me all those years ago. RIP, old friend. (I tried to load a photo but it won't let me, the comment button grays out). Karen (Bolter) Hanuschuk
