RONALD ROY ENBERG

November 21, 1960-November 18, 2025

"People always told me you're

the best friend they ever had."

- Chadwick Stokes

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ronald Roy Enberg in St. Boniface Palliative Care, just days before his 65th birthday.

Predeceased by his father, Roy, in 2014, Ron leaves to cherish his memory his mother Noella, his children Marah and Sullivan and their mothers Val and Jackie, his sister Corrine and niece Margo, as well as a loving extended family and a lifetime of friends.

Born in Winnipeg, Ron spent a happy childhood growing up in Windsor Park. He was a busy, active child and was involved in sports from an early age, playing Little League baseball and trying just about every sport offered during his school years. In the early 80's, Ron started playing rugby with the Winnipeg Wasps, igniting a passion for the sport that never wavered. He truly was Black and Gold forever. Recent years saw him playing hockey with two senior men's leagues and baseball with the Ichabod's Team. It's safe to say Ron loved his sports, almost as much as he loved his cups of Timmie's!

Ron's career as a zoo keeper at Assiniboine Park Zoo spanned from his late teens until he retired at age 52. He forged many lasting relationships with his coworkers over the years. How lucky he was to be able to combine his love of people and animals in this way.

A role model to so many, Ron lived his life as a dedicated zookeeper, faithful friend, supportive teammate, proud father, and exceptional singer. His loss will be felt by all those whose lives he enriched.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cancer Care, Grace Hospital Emergency Ward and St. Boniface Palliative Care Ward for all their dedicated care of Ron. Memorial donations to any of these organizations or any animal shelter or agency of your choice would be appreciated.

Please join us for Ron's Celebration of Life Social on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 7:00 pm at Winakwa Community Centre, 980 Winakwa Rd.

I didn't get to meet Ron until a few years ago playing hockey at Bodley and the Iceplex. He was such a gentle soul with a kind word for everybody. A real easy guy to talk to and he always had an encouraging word.

I got to know him a little bette at our scotch and cigar sessions after hockey with Ray Kolstad, Dave Gooch and Tommy Tulloch. We were fortunate to be able to share stories together about life, sports and all kinds of things. I'm gonna miss you Ronny, RIP brother.

I played rugby against Ron for many years. He was a great guy and played the game the right way. He was hard and competitive on the pitch, and warm and friendly off of it. I offer my condolences to Ron's family and loved ones.

Ron was a the guy who can bring people together! I loved playing with him on provincial rugby teams and always up for a late nite chat at the clubhouse. Truly special man who will be missed. My condolences to family and all who were touched by the light of Haji .

As we get older, we start hearing of old friends and colleagues that are passing. This one hurt a little more than others. I don't think I've seen Ron in 35 years since I left Winnipeg for the US. We played team handball and rugby (well, I didn't play much rugby, to be fair) together and simply always had a great time together. We were fortunate to kibitz back and forth on Facebook from time to time, and I loved reading his interesting and incredibly well-written posts (I am a writer, so I sincerely appreciated his "art").

As I've told others, Ron was simply one of the nicest guys I've ever met. I don't think I was ever with him where he was down or negative. Always lifting people up, either physcially or spiritually. And he did until the end as well. Even in his final posts, he was still playing the "half full" guy, but it was always more than half.

What a wonderful human being. He is missed. We have his memory and I, for one, will never forget him. I looked at Ron as an inspiration for how one should look at life.

Positively, with verve.

Ron was one of the happiest and most positive people I've ever met. I had the fortune to be on the Wasps' 2015 Ireland Tour with Ron, Jackie and Sullivan. Great memories that will last beyond a lifetime.

Love you Haji.

Words cannot express how much you will be missed. You were such a wonderful friend, and I will miss 'chatting rugby' with you, and your humour during our annual catch-ups. Cheers, from your pal 'from across the pond'.

Rob was always getting involved with us "older" guys, playing football and baseball in the Jubinville park or road hockey on front of his house. He was smaller than us and would get hurt. Off he'd go,sometimes crying but he always came back to play again and again. He just never gave up and it appears that teend stayed with him. Sorry for your loss of a solid young man.

Ronnie old sock, you are missed by so many. You were an amazing friend and a fantastic team mate. The fun we had teeing up the Old Boys New Zealand tour put us back in more regular contact and refreshed a friendship that was brilliant in so many ways. The world could use a good lad like you these days...you will be missed but never forgotten my friend. May your family find peace and solace in the days and weeks ahead...Love you brother.

Ron was a great person and team mate. He never said a bad word about anyone even if the person was in the wrong. He always gave an excuse for the person or said something nice about them. May the fond memories of Ron help his family and friends through this difficult time! RIP my friend!

Ron was the kind of of person you will only have the privilege of knowing once in a lifetime. One of the nicest guys who would do anything for you I was lucky enough to have played hockey and baseball with. He never had a bad thing to say about anyone. I will treasure the memories we had together. My condolences to his family. He was one of a kind. Rest in peace my friend.

Ron was a genuinely nice person and I was fortunate to call him a friend. During the years we played hockey together, we shared many laughs and good times . Gone too soon but his memory will live on.
