JOHN (JACK) EDWARD EVANS

July 1, 1935 - May 1, 2022

Peacefully, John passed away at Riverview Health Care Centre on May 1, 2022 at the age of 86.

John was born in Saint John, NB on July 1, 1935.  Canada Day everyone gets a holiday and John loved to say “On my birthday, I give everybody a holiday.”

He was very proud of his Maritime roots. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at 17 years old and spent five years in the service.  He trained as an Aircraft Mechanic on Lancaster Bombers in Camp Bordon, Ontario and served at various R.C.A.F. stations across Canada.  He worked at a variety of places during his lifetime – Dominion Bridge, Mathews Conveys, Turnbull Elevators and Winnipeg School Division for 32 years.

He absolutely loved computers, so it became a hobby for him after he retired. John enjoyed installing programs, troubleshooting, repairing and solving computer problems for people.

He was very sociable, had a good sense of humour, and was young at heart.  He loved to play the board game called Sequence and almost everyday he played crib with his wife Helena.

He is survived by his loving wife Helena, sons Kelly (Jennifer) and Michael and three children from a previous marriage- Beth Isbister, Billy and Jamie, his grandchildren Jennifer (Derek) McLeod, Lianne, Amanda, Ashley (Ryan) Wolfe, Brynn, Jake, Owen and Hazel, six great grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Sandra, sister-in-law Yolande, brother-in-law Leonard (Marlene) Dehn and Verna (John) Holmes and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

John was predeceased by his parents, brother Robert, father and mother in-law John and Bertha Dehn, brother-in-law Lloyd and grandson David.

In accordance with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

A special thank you to the doctors, nurses, nurses’ aids and staff at Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Unit for their care and compassion shown to John and his family.

He will be dearly missed.

Our deepest sympathies to you Helena and the family at the death of Jack. There are many memories that we have shared over the yeas from trips to the Black Hills, to many evenings playing Sequence. Jack was always the one to help me with my computer, always gracious when my mistakes were blatant that I could have corrected the error myself. Jack will be sadly missed by our family. Dear Helena  So sorry to hear of Jack's passing.  I will always remember the help he gave me when I had a back injury many years ago ... pointing me in the right direction to a Physiotherapist.  Thinking of you these days.

Dear Helena and family,   I will miss "Gentleman Jack", with his great sense of humour and love for life. I will miss the man who was always willing to help anyone. I will miss the man who loved to have dogs around the house. I will miss his informative and funny e-mails that he sent on a daily basis. I will miss him answering the phone and saying "Helena's secretary speaking". These are but a few memories of Jack that I will keep close to my heart. A new star has been added to the heavens, With Sincere Sympathy and love Dianne & Lin.

Dear Helena and family, Please accept our sincere condolences on Uncle Jack's passing. We have many great memories of Jack at Twin Beaches and our many visits at the farm. We were always guaranteed to receive several photo memories from him after each get-together! He was always so cheerful and positive. We will miss his stories and light-hearted personality.
