NORMA (HAMDEN) EVANS

December 4, 1955 - June 18, 2018

Norma ended her journey on June 18, 2018, peacefully in the arms of her daughters, Sarah and Tannis; sister Diane; and soulmate Jerry.

Norma is survived by her daughters; Sarah (John Humby) and Tannis (Mike Ehinger).  Norma will always be called “GMAW” and idolized by her grandchildren; James, Anna, and Talaina, as well as grand-baby number four on the way. Norma also leaves behind a loving extended family; Diane and Christine; mother, siblings and many nieces and nephews.

Norma was a special person, her  lovable and cheerful personality as well as her towering height of 5 feet (as she claimed) made you smile. Everyone knew she was a true, sincere friend for life.

Norma was born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario and touched the hearts of many as a result of work related relocations to Thunder Bay, Brandon, Saskatoon, Sudbury, Calgary & Winnipeg.

Norma was a dedicated and hard-working young lady. Her main life achievement could be summarized as being the best Mom and role model in the world to her two girls (Sarah & Tannis) & grandchildren. Norma always put her family first and will always be remembered for her captivating smile. Norma never complained about anything and accepted whatever came our way; The Family was always number one in her life.

During her working career, Norma worked for several different jobs such as a hospital ward clerk, welcome wagon representative, and educational assistant for the Winnipeg school system. Although Norma’s ideal dream job was being a part in the initial start-up for WestJet in Calgary. Norma was an excellent seamstress & was an active volunteer in her family’s life, from sandbagging the flood ’97, or her children's music, school, and skating activities.

The family welcomes everyone to give tribute of the life of Norma at her Celebration of Life service between 10:30am - 12:30pm Saturday, June 23, 2018, in the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba and/or Golden Links Lodge in memory of Norma Evans.
