DENIS FERLAND

January 14, 1954 - August 26, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Denis Ferland, age 67, on Thursday, August 26, 2021.

Cherishing his memory are his Father Alphonse (Georgette); sister Yvette (Frank); partner Nancy Leigh; children, Ryan (Carissa), Vanessa (Eliza), and Chantel (Mark); as well as grandchildren, Cody, Chase and Teagan. He is also survived by children, Brigitte, Richard, Jason (Jessica), and Justin Prescott; grandchildren, Celeste, Matthew and Julie; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Denis was predeceased by his mother Blanche; and brothers Maurice and Richard.

Dad was one of four children and grew up in St. Boniface.  He started working as a young teenager delivering laundry with his father.  He had very fond memories working with his dad (Smokey) since he had a fear of dogs. Dad would always drop off the laundry to those houses.

At the young age of 18 dad got married and had four kids, Brigette, Richard, Jason & Justin.  Dad enjoyed spending time at the lake with his kids, and fishing with the boys.  He also enjoyed taking Justin to his hockey games.

Dad worked various jobs from working in a lumber yard, driving a taxi and working at Burns meat’s. He then started in Real estate a career he loved. Meeting so many people from clients, agents and brokers throughout the years. Many became long time friends. Anywhere we went he would always run into someone he knows. He loved real estate and it was brought up in almost all visits and conversations. Two years ago he received his certificate from Manitoba Real Estate Association for 40 years of service. This year made 42 years in Real Estate. He had no plans to retire, ending his career with REMAX.

At age 31 he married Darlene and had three children; Ryan, Vanessa and Chantel.  Dad enjoyed spending time with his kids, taking them camping, to the beach, tinker town and many long drives and road trips.  Dad had taken over the theatre in Lac Du Bonnet which he owned for 3 years.  Dad enjoyed running the theatre and the arcade along side working as a Real Estate Agent.  Dad also enjoyed spending time with his grand kids Cody, Chase & Teagan.  Their favourite memory of their Grandpa is how he used to come over and bring them Timbits or take them to Grand Prix or the local fair.

These past 8 years he was enjoying his life with his partner Nancy.  They would spend their time hosting family bbq’s in the backyard, travelling to Arizona, Montreal, Ottawa and checking out the local concerts. He loved spending time with Nancy’s family who quickly became his own. Nancy’s children Colin and Vanessa and Sondra and Jeff and their children gave him so much joy. Dad really loved being around their children.

Dad had a love for music and could always be found singing or whistling to his favourite tune.

Dad was always a big man with a soft and loving soul. He had a large personality with a kind heart and a smile and laugh you can never forget. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

A private family service will be held at a later date. In the meantime, Denis' family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

In Lieu of flowers donations can be made in Denis’ memory to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

My dear baby brother was called so soon.  I remember as a young boy how you love to be kissed & hugged.  You had an infectious laugh & always showed concern for others.  Now you are in heaven with mom, Maurice & Richard.  I love you Denis.  🙏 RIP

A wonderful tribute to a great guy.  Deni will be missed by both of us immensely as well as our extended family.  We enjoyed so much time, whether  playing cards, doing dinners, visiting in Phoenix or just hanging out with him and Nance.  RIP Deni 💕, you are gone too soon!  Judy & Larry

This is such a nice tribute to a man that will be missed by so many! For me I was happy that I was able to tell him how much I loved him and was so happy he was in my sisters life! He treated my sister like a princess.  I enjoyed his humor,  his company , and  his honesty! He was truly one of the great ones! I’m so sorry for everyone’s loss, and I’ll miss him so much !!!

I'm saddened to read of your passing Den, aka: "My Brother From A Different Mother". Since the first time we met when I joined the office, we hit it off due to your infectious personality and warmth. We had many chats and lunches over the decades, talking business and "monkey business" (more the latter). You were taken too soon my friend and I will miss you. RIP my friend.

Sincere condolences to the Ferland family. Although my husband Bob & I haven't seen Denis since 2004 when we sold our home in St. Vital it came as a shock on the loss of Denis. He was a great guy and certainly will be missed by many. Rest in Peace Denis. The Phaneuf family

Our deepest sympathies to Nancy and to Denis' children and grandchildren. My hubby Bob and I really enjoyed his company. He had a great sense of humor and we loved that Nancy had found such a fantastic partner.  The pic I have posted is of Denis and us girls in Phoenix. It was a great day together. RIP Denis ❤ We will miss you xo
