ANDREAS (ANDY) FERSTL

August 14, 1932 - October 23, 2022

Andy Ferstl passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23, 2022, after a short illness at Seven Oaks Hospital, Winnipeg, MB. He will be sadly missed by his children Erwin, Ingrid and Peter (wife Darlene), his grandchildren Ryan, Rachel and Sean Ferstl, their mother, Diane Bargenda, as well as step-grandchildren, Drayson and Dreanne Chubak.

Andy was born in Agendorf, Hungary, on August 14, 1932. He learned his painting trade in communist Hungary and later escaped to Austria and then Germany. He then finally immigrated to Canada in 1955 to start a new life where he met and married his first wife, Elli Kienitz.

Andy met his second wife Elke in 1978 at Camp Neustadt and they were married in Winnipeg in 1985. Andy and Elke shared a happy, long relationship of 38 years including many trips abroad to Hungary, Austria and Germany.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Dad had a large group of lifelong friends and together they enjoyed many gatherings, especially their weekly ritual of meeting in Kildonan Park for lunch and conversation.

The family invites you to join them for a Celebration of Andy’s life on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the common room at 133 Matheson Avenue East. Special thanks go to the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, 4th floor, Unit 7 for their wonderful care and kindness.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Diabetes Canada.

Thank you, Dad, for your kind and loving soul.  You will be forever in our hearts, and we will miss you dearly.

Andy's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

I got to know your father when I would visit my Mother at Matheson Ave. He was always so friendly and kind. During my time volunteering at Seven Oaks Hospital I was able to pop into his room, I'm so glad because his face would light up and we would have a short chat. .RIP Andy
