Delaine Figur

DELAINE ANTOINETTE FIGUR
March 27, 1962 – August 29, 2025
Delaine Antoinette Figur, 63, passed away on August 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Born on March 27, 1962, in Hamilton, Ontario, Delaine grew up in Stonewall, Manitoba, and later made her home in Stony Mountain, where she raised her children, Matthew and Melanie.
Delaine dedicated 32 years of her life to the Correctional Service of Canada at Stony Mountain Institution. She began her career as a clerk, successfully completed Correctional Officer training in 1993, and later discovered her true calling as a parole officer. She was a mentor, a leader, and a compassionate professional whose guidance touched the lives of many colleagues and clients alike.
Those who knew Delaine will remember her as someone with a caring heart and a generous soul. She was always ready with a listening ear, a shoulder to lean on, or a fresh pot of tea to share. She had a quick wit, a love for good conversation, and a way of making everyone feel welcome at her table. Her greatest joy was found in loving and supporting her children, grandchildren, and friends.
Her strength and resilience shone brightest during her courageous battle with cancer, where she faced every challenge with grace and quiet determination.
Beyond her career and family, Delaine poured her energy into her community, helping to organize events that brought people together. She cherished the traditions passed down from her grandmothers, carrying on a love for cooking and baking that warmed the hearts of many. She especially loved preparing big holiday meals, where she insisted on “just one more dish” to make sure everyone left full and happy. Some of her happiest moments were spent at the lake, where her smile glowed brightest—sitting around a bonfire with friends, enjoying her favorite bubbly, music, laughter, and the stories that filled the night. She also had a love of gardening, taking pride in her flowers and the simple joy of watching things grow. Delaine also loved to travel with friends and family to Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic, where she could soak up the warm sun and escape the cold winter months.
She was the heart of our family, and her boundless love will forever be carried in the souls of those she cherished most: her beloved children, Matthew and Melanie; her adored grandchildren, Owen, Amari, and Anders, who knew her as their brightest light; her dear Uncle Jim, Auntie Sunny, and cousin Jasmin. Her beautiful spirit also leaves an indelible mark on the countless friends she uplifted, inspired, and loved so deeply.
While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing she has been welcomed home into the joyous, open arms of her grandparents, who preceded her in death. We can almost hear the laughter of their heavenly reunion. Her legacy is not one of sorrow, but of immense love, unwavering strength, and the countless precious moments she gifted us all.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Grace Hospital for their care and compassion, and to Charlene Munro for her loving support—caring for Delaine after surgeries and ensuring she made it to her many appointments.
In honor of her wishes, a celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, September 23, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Heritage Arts Centre in Stonewall, MB. She would love to see family and friends gather to enjoy food and drink while sharing stories and cherished memories of the many relationships Delaine held dear.
Delaine will be forever remembered for her love, her laughter, her unwavering strength, and the way she lived each day with kindness and authenticity.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Delaine’s memory to Ronald McDonald House Charities Manitoba at www.rmhcmanitoba.org.
Delaine’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Delaine’s passing. She was more than just a coworker to me, she felt like family. Delaine carried that comforting “Kookom" energy in the office: nurturing, funny, and always ready with guidance when I needed it.
She mentored me, believed in me, and never missed a chance to brag to others about my potential. Sharing an office with her was such a gift—she filled it with laughter, wisdom, and the kind of love that made everyone around her better. I’ll always remember her teasing me about my messy desk and reminding me to get organized - seriously it drove her nuts lol.
What made Delaine so special was her deeply caring heart. As an Indigenous woman, she was a role model of strength and compassion, and she inspired me to see how important it is to contribute to the growth of Indigenous people and offenders. She often told me that being a leader was the most powerful thing someone could do to break cycles, heal intergenerational trauma, and spark change.
Delaine’s impact will stay with me for the rest of my career and my life. She will be profoundly missed—not only for the work she did, but for the love, warmth, and hope she carried into every space she entered

I lived a couple years in Winnipeg and my deepest and fondest memories are of Delanie. The first day I met her we were instant friends. She took me to her "happy place" several times and down to her American "happy place" to tub down a river I didn't know but, it didn't matter because I knew Delanie and when one knew Delanie they could count on a great time. pots of tea and spilling the tea were a couple of her favourite pastimes knowing that what you said stayed safe with her like a vault. The world will shine a little less without this wonderful woman in it but, I will shine a little bit brighter having known such a wonder of a woman.

My condolences go out to Delaine's family. I can't put into words how much she will be missed. I was lucky enough to work with Delaine for many years when it was the good old Rockwood Inst days. She always had a genuine smile and a positive outlook and for that, she was respected by all her colleagues. She had the biggest heart ever and when I needed someone to talk to, whether it was work related or personal, she always made time for me - her door was always open. I don't know how she did it, but after our talks, I always ended up walking out of her office with a smile on my face - that's the kind of effect she had on people and for that we are truly thankful. You will be missed

Buddy Bear! This is a tough one. I am forever grateful that we met and that you became family. I will always miss that bright smile, your laugh and all those quirky sayings you had for us.
The planning of our annual summer vacation at our happy place
was full of soooo much yummy foods, singing, laughter and cold bubblies. I will never forget all the gossip sessions and all the times you kicked my butt at rummy. My family and I will truly miss you 💕

I am so happy I met you when you were working as a Parole Officer. I always respected your opinions and recommendations. Over the years we spent together we became work colleagues and more importantly friends. Like so many others you touched in your life I will miss your smile and your humor. Despite the sorrow of losing you it is comforting to know Creator is embracing you and wrapping you in eternal and peaceful love. Fly free and high my friend. You deserve the best, you will remain in my thoughts and prayers.

It's hard to express how impactful this loss is, to your community of friends and to the vast community of people you have worked with and helped throughout your career. Even after retiring from CSC, your spirit of giving and joy resonated and you continued to give your time and energy to help others. For many who worked alongside you, you were a mentor, offering supports and insights to very challenging times. You will be missed, but we will continue to talk about you and share your wisdom. You can rest now (but we all know you're keeping the party going!).

I am saddened today to hear of your sudden passing. I think of you starting your Life in Ancaster at Antoinette and Joseph Melnick s home. When I read the comments of your life to them it reminded me of my mother's personality and how fitting it was that you carried on her name. As I read further your celebration of life is on Sept 23. My mom and Dad's wedding date. I'm sure they will be looking down and welcoming you home.

Delaine was a bright light whose warm positive smile made you feel welcome the minute you experienced it. A wonderful woman, mother, friend, co-worker, and the list guess on. Thoughts and prayers to her family and all those that had the experience of knowing Delaine's caring soul (that made the dark tunnels of our work place much brighter with her presence each day). Be very proud of the path you walked on in life and the lives you touched.

My dear friend Lainey Bear! Our hearts are broken. My heart and prayers for comfort are with your beautiful family. My family will always cherish your love and kindness. I'll always treasure the memories of our adventures at the lake. You taught me to live life large and whoop it up! Your love for humanity will always be treasured with your legacy of treating our men with dignity, grace and encouragement and mentoring me! I will always remember the great times we had, playing guitar, singing, karaoke nights in my rec-room, sharing stories and teachings and embracing your Indigenous knowledge. I know that Brian greeted you with the biggest hug! Until we meet again beautiful lady! 🙏🏿🐻🧡

Delain was one of the GOAT(s) within the PO community for the Prairie Region. She was so happy to be a facilitator for the POIT and this resonated with her class. Her smile, caring and loving nature helped both colleagues and clients through the good and tough times. She was so proud of her family. She spoke often about them to anyine who would listen. She is now in her new 'happy place'. Cheers to you my dear friend 🍷. Until we meet again. 🖤💙
