Ken Fingler

KENNETH WAYNE FINGLER
November 16, 1949 – September 23, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce that Ken Fingler passed away on September 23, 2026 in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 76.
Ken was born in Winnipeg, MB on November 16, 1949 to Pauline and Adolf "Ed" Fingler, the fourth of six children. He grew up in North Kildonan and attended River East Collegiate and the University of Manitoba before embarking on a long and successful career in the insurance industry.
Ken was predeceased by his parents and four brothers, Gerald, Norman, Allen, and Glenn. Ken is survived by his wife Patricia, his children Pamela (Trevor) and Jeffrey (Harmony), bonus children Kyle (Sherri) and Jeff (Rachel), his sister Cindy, and his grandchildren, who he loved with his whole heart, Nate and Greg, Elizabeth and Audrey, Jade, Jax and Gemma, and Natalie and Cordelia. "Grandpa Ken was the best grandpa anyone could ask for."
Ken always took opportunities to be involved. Whether it was Beavers & Cubs, softball, Parent Council, or Sunday School, he would pitch in and lead where needed. Countless hours were spent watching sporting events, plays, and concerts, supporting those he loved (even when we were just beginning and horrible!)
Ken enjoyed travelling. Through insurance conferences and pleasure trips with Pat, he had the opportunity to explore many locations in North America and Europe, acquiring many amazing memories.
Anyone who knew Ken, knew he loved golf. Golfing with Pat or friends or family, visiting favourite courses like CFB Winnipeg or Shooters, trying new courses, watching golf on TV, smiling happily when family gave him yet another golf themed present, these brought him joy. His favourite golf related activity was sharing his love of golf with his grandkids. Trips to U-Putz and other mini golf courses, giving tips at the driving range, or rounds of golf where they always came home with more balls then they started with after hunting in the rough or by the ponds. He was patient and knowledgeable. The grandkids always knew they would have lots of laughs and snacks, and usually lunch or slurpees or ice cream (sometime more than one!)
Family was the centre of his life. He built a life with Pat full of activities and adventures, smiles, laughs and love. He spent much of his time with both his and Pat's siblings and extended family and always had time for all of his kids and grandkids. Games, dinners, celebrations for birthdays and holidays, or getting together for no reason, he was there for all of them. Some family had the privilege of knowing Ken for their entire life, and some came into his life later. For those who had Ken come into their lives when they were already adults, he never treated them as anything less than his own family. He welcomed them with an open heart and became an important father figure and grandfather. He became family in every way that mattered.
At the centre of his love for family were his grandkids. Movies, pool parties, art, spelling lessons (iykyk), adventures, and so much more. He never complained when they joined a new sport and he had to learn the rules, there was another concert to attend, trekking to another part of the city to cheer from the sidelines, or when they beat him at Wii bowling. He was always there with a smile and hugs (and usually snacks!). Ken was always excited to take video calls with his California granddaughters to hear about their recent adventures, artwork, and Girl Scout activities. Ken was a frequent customer of their cookie sales when he was visiting. He created memories the grandkids will carry with them always.
He had a rare gift for making people feel loved and supported. His generous heart and unwavering kindness touched us all and he will be missed and loved forever.
As we grieve the end of this journey we hope Ken's next journey is greeted with a smile, hug and a brown paper lunch bag with his name on it filled with his favourite treats.
In Accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. For those wishing to honour Ken's memory, in lieu of flowers the family requests donations to CancerCare Manitoba.

Ken will be deeply missed by all of those that enjoyed having him in their lives consistently, as well as all of those that were only able to catch up on occasion. Always a story and a laugh. Always positive, even when speaking about something hard, it would get better and that's what Ken chose to focus on. His laugh... or should I say giggle..... that we will remember forever! His love for Pat, what a beautiful partnership they found! May he rest in peace and may all of those he leaves behind find peace in the fact that he truly enjoyed them all for as long as he was given!

I am so deeply sorry to hear of Ken’s passing. I had the privilege of golfing with Ken at CFB 17th Wing from 2006 until the base closed, and we kept our tradition going at various courses around the city right up until this year. He was a wonderful friend on the course, always patient, and so proud of his family. He will be dearly missed. Golfing won't be the same without Ken.

We will miss this face and that warm smile. Over the years it has been a real pleasure to go for a round of golf, play Dominoes and Wizard, and travel to Palm Springs and Nashville with Ken and Pat. Ken was one of the truly good guys. He was always ready to tell a good joke and share a laugh. He had an incredibly calming demeanor which likely contributed to his wicked short game and the adoration of his grand kids. We are heartbroken you are gone Ken, and we wish we had more time together. Rest in peace.

Ken was such a pivotal person in my early years in the insurance industry just filling my head full of knowledge. For many years I had the pleasure of sharing many a laugh with him around the office and outside it. Watching him and Pat fall in love was probably one of the most beautiful things to witness. How blessed were we all, to have been a part of his life. I will miss that big smile and even more the best hugs. Rest in peace my dear friend, the world will not be the same without your presence. Biggest of hugs and prayers for strength to Pat and the kids.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Ken’s passing. He was a wonderful boss and mentor whose encouragement and kindness played a big part in my life and career. Ken had a rare gift for making those around him feel valued, supported, and welcomed. I will always remember his great sense of humour, and his infinite patience (it was tested!).
My condolences goes out to Pat, his children, grandchildren, and all who called him friend.

It is sad that now all of the Fingler brothers are gone. I was so lucky to finally have "brothers" when I married Allen. Ken 's smile and his hearty laugh I will never forget. Whenever Ken came to Ontario, he always made a point of coming to visit even if it was just for one lunch or dinner. Ken, you will be missed by many. Love and hugs to all who grieve.
