LIONEL FINLAYSON

December 31, 1948 - December 30, 2021

It is with heavy hearts, we announce that Lionel has passed away December 30, 2021 in the Brandon Regional Health Centre, at the age of 73 years. He fought hard to overcome COVID but lost the battle.

He is survived by his loving partner of 20 years, Helen Pitch; her son Jason; daughter Gloria (John), and their children, Cortney (Chris) and Johnathon (Kim). He also leaves behind siblings, Lloyd (Jackie), Donna, Kathleen (Victor), and Orville (Joanne), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Dwight, Colin, and Charlotte.

Lionel was born and raised in Brandon. At one point he lived in Calgary, Alta., but did return to Brandon. He worked as a brick lawyer and truck driver but back problems prevented him from continuing in that line of work. Lionel spent his later years visiting Helen's children in Saskatchewan, listening to country music in the park, watching western movies, playing cards and working on his computer daily. He was the computer tech for people in princess park/princess tower and Helen's son, Jason. He tried to help people with what he could and was always looking out for his "little love bug" (Helen) and their beloved cat Chappy. Lionel gave their cat that name as that was his dad's nickname for him when he was a young tike.

In keeping with Lionel’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will take place at a later date. In the meantime, Lionel's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

He’s Gone

You can shed tears that he is gone,

Or you can smile because he lived,

You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back,

Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see him

Or you can be full of the love that you shared,

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,

Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember him and only that he is gone

Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind,

be empty and turn your back,

Or you can do what he would want: smile,

open your eyes, love and go on.
