SHARON DAGMAR FLETCHER

(née FOSS)

December 2, 1952 – December 17, 2020

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, wife, nanny, grandma, sister, auntie, and friend.

Sharon passed away at St. Boniface Hospital on December 17th, 2020 at the age of 68. Left to cherish in her memory are her loving husband Rick; her daughters, Jennifer (Jeff), and Amy (Udo); her grandchildren, Julian, Brittney, Nicolas, Katja and Emma; her sister Sonja (Bob);  numerous nieces and nephews; and many more family and friends.

Sharon was predeceased by her parents Ragna and Ivan Foss and her brothers Ivan and Larry.  She was born on December 2nd, 1952 and grew up in the North End of Winnipeg.  She attended Sisler High School and afterwards was married on September 16th, 1972.

Sharon enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She had a special bond with each and every one of them. She will be remembered for her funny, curious and loving nature. She touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her, which were many throughout the city.  Sharon acted as a mother and friend to all.  If anybody needed a place to sleep, a place to live or needed a place at the dinner table, she opened her home to everybody.   She also had an open home to numerous pets over the years and had a particular love for Labrador dogs.

Sharon will be remembered by most for her energetic nature, contagious laughter and her love to sing and dance.  Sharon was always the first one on the dance floor.

Her daughters are grateful to have had a mother who was so kind, loving and always present in their lives.   Mom, you will be so deeply missed.

A special thanks from our family to Dr. Funk and the amazing, brave and loving ICU team at St. Boniface Hospital.   Most especially to the nurses who held Sharon's hand throughout her last hours.

Keep dancing, Sharon.  Until we meet again.

“Dear Lord, we lift her high to you on December 17th in honor of the good we saw in her and the love we felt from her.  Please give us the strength to leave her in your care in the knowledge of eternal life through Jesus Christ, Amen.”

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held when we can safely come together. In the meantime, Sharon’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. They also encourage the sharing of photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

In Lieu of flowers, please just wear your masks and fight Covid-19 together!

Donations may be made to Hull’s Haven Border Collie Rescue.

Sharon will always be remembered as a great neighbour with a smile that could light up a room.  She was fun-loving and had an infectious laugh.  Sharon cared so much about others.  When you were with her, you could feel her love.  We were shocked to hear of her passing and send our loving and heartfelt condolences to Rick, Jenny, Amy, Sonja, Bob and their families.  Sharon's beautiful spirit will live on in her family, the community, and those whose lives she touched.  The wonderful tribute says it all! The dance and love go on...❤

Rick, Jenny, and Amy, I am so sorry for your loss. Sharon was such a bright light. She made the world a better place. Rick and Sharon living next door was one of the greatest blessings my family ever received. Sharon was the definition of a great person. She always helped when asked..I am so thankful that I can call her a close family friend. You can’t choose your family but you can choose your friends, and Sharon was the best. She will be missed.  All my love to the family. Sheryl Kamenz

Sorry for your loss, Rick. I knew very little about Sharon. I remember meeting her through Lillian Lawson. Sharon was always very kind, had an infectious smile and a laugh not soon forgotten. May you and your family cherish memories of Sharon forever. RIP Earlyne Wiebe

I worked closely with Sharon in the last couple of years before she retired. She was the glue that held the provincial TB program together.  She was unfailingly a ray of sunshine in my work life. She had the best laugh! I am so sorry for your loss.

I love and miss my grandma so much. I wish I could have seen her more often then once a year. Every time I was there, I had the best time ever with her. We laught together, we had fun, we went shopping (which at some point got our tradition when I was there), we always watched border security and this ER show together. I loved going grocery shopping with her and listening and singing to our favorite song “Señorita” on repeat in the car (well, we could only sing one part of the song). She fed me like crazy, so that I always gained at least 3 kilograms after the holidays. (She made the best sandwiches on earth!!) Now she is up there in heaven with squirrels and rabbits which she loved so much. I know that she is watching over us now. Every night before I go to bed, I tell her what I did this day and how much I love and miss her.. ❤❤❤

What a beautiful tribute. You’ve done her proud.  We lived beside Sharon & Rick for over 30 years.....the greatest neighbours anyone could wish for.  Our various dogs were always  pals, enjoying the doggy door in the fence so they could romp through both yards together.  So many coffees we shared talking about her girls & our boys.   Fond memories of a Christmas long ago when my oven quit & I phoned Sharon to see if they were going to her moms for dinner. She was & immediately ran over with the keys & I used her oven, running back & forth all afternoon, basting my turkey.   That was Sharon & Rick , always there when you needed them .  One year both our homes were broken into.    When returning home , Rick & Sharon surprised their burglar entering through the back door while the culprit ran out the front. Rick told the story of calling after him .... “ come back , you forgot the TV “ ........he could have used a new one 😄 Sharon, Rest In Peace my friend, you will be forever missed.  Our deepest sympathy,  Bev & Les Gillam , Todd & Scott & families

She was one sweet lady. Intervening years went by that we didn’t see or even talk to one another, but when we connected, the years melted away. I loved Jen and Amy’s post that stated “heaven gained another angel”. She will always be that to us earthbound souls.....

Dear Rick, Jenny &Amy. We offer our sincerest condolences on the passing of Sharon, both wife and mother.  We will always cherish her  memory and the times we were included in hers and Ricks holiday dinners. Also the fun times afterwards playing pass the Ace card game.  How loud we got over paltry nickels. It was a fun time and always looked forward  to Sharon's blueberry torte afterwards. It was a fun time. We will miss her dearly. Ingrid, Marv and Marlene

Nanny, was more then just a grandma to me but also my best friend. Every morning before I went into an exam, she would send me a picture of a metal elephant and she would rub it and have the same note underneath, “you know the drill kiddo, read and review, you got this girl, good luck”. Every year that I was in school she would send me the lucky elephant and I would pass all my exams! I will forever always rub the trunk before going into an exam from now on! I love you! And I miss you so much ❤️
