KENNETH JAMES JOSEPH FLEURY

September 8, 1954 - October 22, 2020

In loving memory of Ken, who passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer on October 22, 2020.

Ken was born in Russell, MB, grew up in Binscarth, Manitoba, attended K-9 school in Binscarth and graduated from Major Pratt Collegiate in Russell. After graduation, Ken worked for a security company in Winnipeg training German Shepherds as Guard dogs. Ken then moved to Prince Albert and lived with Elie and Therese and family while working store security at the Hudson's Bay store and also working at a personal Care Home with his sister-in-law Therese as an Orderly. Ken then began employment with Correctional Service of Canada where he worked at Saskatchewan Penitentiary as a correctional officer for nine years. Ken then moved home to Manitoba living in Brandon and Winnipeg. Ken worked at Ma Mawi, Indigenous community service provider for 9 years as Coordinator. Ken then began employment with the Native Clan organization as Executive Director for 8 years up until his last months. Ken's passion was music, and being an accomplished guitarist, entertained many friends and family throughout the years.

Although he had only 11 short years with his daughter, Ken and Dayna shared a love for music and singing. There was nothing that gave Ken more pride and joy than being her father. It is unfortunate that Ken wasn't able to tell Dayna how much he loved her, prior to his passing. In the last 3 ½ months of his life, Donnie and Georgina opened up their hearts and their home to Ken making him as comfortable as possible. Ken enjoyed spending time reminiscing with the family and friends that visited him in his final few months.

Ken is survived by his daughter Dayna, who filled his heart with joy; brother Elie (Therese); sister Doreen (Red); Sister-in-law Carol; brother Donnie (Georgina); brother Terry (Brenda) as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ken was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Mary Fleury, baby brother Joseph and older brother Stan Fleury.

Ken's wishes are to have a celebration of life in the summer of 2021 at the hall in Binscarth, Manitoba. Service arrangements will be announced by the family at a later date.

This is so sad. Ken was enormous help and positive influence in my life. I was crushed to find this when searching for his contact info. He made a little part of the world a better place for many. See you on the other side brother. ❤

I am very sorry to hear of Ken's passing. As a good friend of Terry's I knew Ken well and he made me feel part of the Fleury family. It was because of Ken that I was first introduced to Gordon Lightfoot--one of Ken's favourite folk singers and guitarists. And later, when I was looking for a summer job to help get myself through university, Ken and Terry welcomed me to stay at their house in PA. I sure appreciated their generosity. Rob Rannie's comments here reminded me of Ken's penchant for a toothpick. That brought a chuckle. Ken was pretty easy-going and a great guy. My sincere condolences to the Fleury Family.   - Bob Burton

My condolences to the Fleury family. When we were teenagers, my sister Carol was dating Stanley, and Kenny and I went to Wpg for a weekend. Being country boys, we were overwhelmed with everything the big city had to offer. We went into Eatons and exited from a different door onto a different street and were totally disorientated, had no clue what direction we needed to go, so we had to use a portion of our very limited funds to take a taxi to our next destination.  Ken always had a toothpick or a guitar pick in his mouth, as he didn't talk much. The Fleury family were our close neighbours out in the country before they moved to Binscarth.  Oh the fun we had, playing ball and other wild games.  I remember at one of the School Christmas concerts, about Grade 5, Ken had to sing a solo.  He was very shy, but he had the most beautiful voice.  My most sincere sympathies to all the family.❤

I remember all the fun our family shared with the Fleury family growing up.  Our family's were close and the fun of going to the Fleury home while our parents played cards and visited bring happy memories.  I used to look so forward to go trick-or-treating with Kenny and Terry - the fun we had!!  My condolences to all the family.  Anna (Boucher) Fast❤

thank you dear one for the laughs, and the fun we shared when the sun shone brightly. thanks for your guidence and wisdom as you know i never listened to you anyways...and we laughed... as you were not my teacher..,. as you were constantly reminded...when you hurt, we were not there but you were always there in our minds. and were grateful for the day, jesus came with the blanket, wrapped it around your caring soul and you got the peace and warmth you deserved after all your suffering. . . he gave you the peace you well deserved, the warmth of knowing he was there at the end of a sunny day and we feel comforted  knowing you know no more pain but the joy of his presence forever.with your loved ones who passed on before you... sleep well dear one ... eugene and your never reformed student.nan...
