CINDY BROADBENT FRIESEN

May 5, 1953 – July 16, 2026

After a battle with cancer, Cindy peacefully left this earth to reconnect with her loved ones in spirit.

She was predeceased by her brother Wesley, son Matthew and step-son Kelly.

Left to mourn are son Paul (Krista and grandson Sterling,) Stepson Michael (Heather and granddaughter Curalise), Stepson Daniel (Wendy and grandson Reid), and Stepdaughter Donna. Also, sister Lee (Dave and sons Chris and Phil) and brother Ian (Monique, Kristian and Ashely) and cousin Rosemary among other cherished family and friends.

Cindy worked at Miller’s School of Music- accordion teacher, W.M. Ward Technical Services Lab- lab tech, Jack River School K-6 music teacher in Norway House, St. James-Assiniboia School Division –educational assistant, and St. James Assiniboia Teachers’ Association- administrative assistant.

She loved watching her kids and grandkids grow up, enjoyed cooking (especially brunch) and entertaining, sewing, knitting, playing music, writing short stories, gardening, painting and crafting, and gifting her friends with dishcloths.

Cindy graduated from Transcona Collegiate in 1971 and attended 2 years at the University of Manitoba School of Music on classic guitar before she married Art in 1979. They moved to Norway House shortly after that and stayed for 14 years, raising Matthew and Paul for ten of them.

Now at rest, Cindy can put aside her life-long concerns about escaping quicksand, or contracting leprosy. She was a world class worrier who always wanted to be prepared.

She would like to thank Dr. M. Arara and Dr. Pat Harris and the staff of Cancer Care Manitoba.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 6, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at 603 Wellington Crescent (Unitarian Church). Wear something colourful.

With heavy hearts, we offer our deepest condolences to Paul and family. We had the pleasure of working with Cindy for many years at Sturgeon Heights. She was a talented lady with many gifts offering compassion and care to students. With her kindness and sense of humour, she easily connected with everyone. She loved a challenge! We remember her solving the daily crossword in the staffroom! She will be dearly missed!

Cindy was a very special friend I enjoyed getting together regularly to create and craft and share our experiences. I will never forget her and will always cherish her friendship. My condolences to her family.
