COLLEEN MARIE FROUD

(née HANNIVAN)

May 4, 1951 - March 11, 2021

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Colleen Froud, of Winnipeg, Manitoba on March 11, 2021

After a long courageous battle with polycystic kidney disease, Colleen peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family at St. Boniface hospital.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of almost 50 years, Walter; daughter Jennifer Vasas (Brian); grandchildren, Ryan Froud, Colby Vasas and Makayla Vasas; brother Daryl Hannivan; sisters Tricia Hannivan, Armin Hannivan and so many family and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents George and Leona Hannivan; daughter Amanda-Lee Lillian Froud; sister Lori Hannivan and brother Brian Hannivan.

Colleen was born in Hamilton, Ontario on May 4, 1951. She was a very loving and spunky woman who loved her Bobo so much she married him twice knowing he was her soulmate. We laugh today as we remember her playing the spoons which was usually just before she started calling family at 3am and singing out of tune so they would know she wished they were there with her. As she got older, she decided that pink or blue hair was her thing!

She loved to travel and went on many trips over the years, California for a surprise 90th birthday party for her Aunt Yvonne, Florida to visit her kissing cousin, Bahamas, of course to Montreal to see family, Vancouver with her husband, grandson, and friend just because she wanted to go to the ocean, Alberta to visit her family and friends and to get her cowgirl on! Her love of family history and generations brought together many Dearlock family reunions (cue spoons, tambourine, and anything else that made noise) playing, and so many other road trips with her family. Family was everything to her especially at Christmas, holidays, and changes of seasons. Her 27 years of working at Gales Wholesale enabled her to accumulate many decorations that she proudly displayed. After retirement she found enjoyment and friendships with her passion of scrapbooking.

Colleen loved spending time with her grandchildren, who lovingly call her Gigi. She would go to any sporting event, taught them how to play the spoons, showed them who is boss every now and then and sometimes they just sat and watch hockey on TV or sat outside on the swing. No matter what it was she did with them, she treasured every moment and was so proud of every accomplishment no matter how big or small. She loved being outside, usually you could find her on the side of her building gardening or at her daughter’s house watching her do the gardening.

A come and go celebration of her life will be held from 1pm to 5pm on Saturday March 20, 2021 at the residence of her daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Brian. Please contact them for the address.

We ask that everyone wear a mask. Dress according to the weather as we will be outside; if you are feeling unwell or have been exposed to Covid-19 please stay home and join us virtually.

❤My sincere condolences to the entire family. I was fortunate enough to see Colleen when she visited me at CFB Shilo Manitoba where my son lived at the time. We had a catch up and to me and I think we both said the same to each other “you haven’t changed a bit lol”. It felt as if we never lost touch.  I will miss you my friend. And I’ll never forget you. Like my sister Nicole said we were all friends in school. Goodbye for now. 💋 😘  Francine.  😍

Sincere condolences to all the family. Although I hadn't kept in touch, we were good friends in grade school and high school and shared great moments when growing up. Colleen, we'll remember you always and will keep fond memories of days gone by.

I am very sorry to hear of Colleen’s passing.  I was part of the Gales family in Regina and had the opportunity to work with her when I went to Winnipeg to help out out on occasion.  I always enjoyed her company.  I have now retired myself and moved to Victoria. Always remember the fun times!  Hugs to all of you.   TerriLynn Masters ❤

What a lovely tribute to a life well lived!  I have such great memories of Colleen and seeing some of those family pictures brought them all back.  I remember those parties at Lee's house that lasted into the wee hours of morning.  Colleen was always the life of the party; dancing and singing and doing the "soft shoe" on a small wood board.  Of course, who could forget her playing the spoons and the bells!  She was truly a special woman who was generous and kind and taken way too soon.  I hope she has been reunited with her loved ones who were also taken too soon.  My condolences to Bo (Walter), Daryl, Tricia, Armin and of course Jen & your family.  Love you x0x0x
