CAROLYN JUNE GADSBY

June 11, 1943 - September 19, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Carolyn June Gadsby on September 19, 2023. Carolyn died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband Bill (William) Gadsby (September 29, 2021) and is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn Jane McCormack (Jeremy Coleman) and Rebecca McCormack along with her brother Richard Carson (Elma) and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was born in Winnipeg to Clarence and Anne Carson.  Aside from short periods in Britain and London, Ontario, Carolyn lived in Winnipeg most of her life.  She completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education as well as a Post Baccalaureate Degree. She was employed as a teaching librarian at Garden City Collegiate, Seven Oaks School Division. She was a thoughtful teacher and managed the school library, providing resources and support to students and teachers. She retired from her position in 2000.

Carolyn and Bill owned a cottage on Falcon Lake for many years and enjoyed the quiet solitude offered there.  They also travelled extensively overseas (Spain, Portugal, Paris, Vienna, Budapest and Ireland) and within Canada.  Their last trip together was a memorable Alaskan cruise. They also enjoyed many warm winters in California (Palm Springs, Santa Barbara and Santa Maria).

Carolyn loved life and enjoyed walking, nature hikes, golf, as well as the arts with particular interest in watercolour art.  Carolyn was an avid bridge player and read voraciously as a member of an active local book club.   She always showed an enthusiastic interest in others, and she loved her family, her many close friends and her neighbours.

There will be a celebration of life held at 2:00 PM on Thursday September 28th at the Unitarian Church, 603 WELLINGTON CRESCENT at ACADEMY ROAD in Winnipeg, MB.

In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Carolyn’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

My condolences to Carolyn’s family and her many dear friends.  My husband & I were neighbours (across from the park) of the Gadsbys for many years and we continued getting together with her and Bill on many occasions after we moved to BC.  They were both exceptional  people and a great couple.  We are so sorry that they have both passed away. We are so sorry to hear about Carolyn's passing. We have been friends with Carolyn and Bill for decades. In fact, we bought their cottage at Falcon Lake in 2015. Last fall Carolyn and Jane came to the cottage to visit us and to scatter Bill's ashes at their favorite place at the lake. We are unable to attend her funeral. However, we offer our condolences at this time. We would also like to offer the family the opportunity to join Bill and  scatter Carolyn's ashes at Falcon Lake. Please contact us at your convenience (smith192@mts.net) ❤

A fellow book club member and I were sitting in the bright sunshine with Carolyn in her back yard last Sunday. It has been very hard to process that she is no longer here.  She  was a member of our book club for many years. She was a thoughtful ,interested ,insightful and intelligent reader. We have lost a gracious ,kind and warm lady.   My condolences to the family . We’ll miss you ,Carolyn. .

We have been friends with Carolyn since we became neighbours on Kingston Crescent in 1976. We spent many happy times hiking, canoeing, walking, wining and dining with Carolyn jand Bill as we both had cottages in the Whiteshell. Carolyn was a true friend and we will certainly miss her smile and companionship. She was a strong woman who faced many challenges in her life but never lost her positive attitude and smile. Losing Bill was so very difficult for her but she carried on with the support of her family and many friends. Our condolences to the family. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Carolyn will be deeply missed. She was a great neighbour and friend. We regularly saw her walking with Bill and after his passing on her own, always active. She always showed a genuine interest in her friends and was a kind and caring person. Sincere condolences to her family.  Diane Stevens and John Drabble
