VANESSA ISABEL-GENE GALBRAITH

February 25, 1983 – May 3, 2025

Vanessa Isabel-Gene Galbraith passed away at the young age of 42 and leaves behind her parents, Bella and Derek; sister Colleen (Adam); cherished nephew Aidan; many friends, and an extended family who loved her. Her family takes comfort knowing that she is reunited with her chosen grandparents, Lloyd and Georgina, to help with the gardening in the sky. She is also joined by her Grandma and Grandpa Galbraith.

Vanessa proudly grew up in pink flamingo Transcona with her family and spent her childhood playing in sand dunes at grand beach and jumping on hay bales with her cousins in Manitou. Her father’s “Lamb” and extended family’s “Little Darc”, Vanessa lived up to her namesakes through her sweet nature and levelling up her culinary skills to produce Auntie Darcia’s cooking that she loved so much. Vanessa was empathetic, cared deeply for people and loved animals, and saw an innocent humour in most things.

Vanessa explored a variety of careers but ultimately preferred roles working with people and managing relations. She was hardworking, professional, and was always loved by her coworkers. More recently, she graduated as a Community Outreach Worker with the highest academic achievement award and chose her family to be at her side celebrating in her accomplishment. Her success in schooling was likely fuelled by her desire to always try new things as she learned how to play guitar on her own.

Her family mattered the most to her. The happy childhood memories of sand dunes and hay bales were solidified into practice throughout her adult years in ritual “sister sister days”, shopping, lunch, picking berries at the lake, and doing basically anything to extend the days together. Her life took on a new meaning when her nephew Aidan was born and she became an Auntie, passing down the lessons and love she learned from her aunts and family bonds.

Vanessa, no one is ready to say goodbye. Stay gold, Ponyboy, and we’ll celebrate and remember you for the love and laugher that you brought so easily into the world. You are and were so deeply loved.

Nature’s first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf’s a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.

So Eden sank to grief,

So dawn goes down to day.

Nothing gold can stay.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 603 Wellington Crescent (Unitarian Church). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to pet shelters or nature preserves in memory of Vanessa and the things she loved.

Vanessa’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Theres so many good times with Vanessa its hard to pick just one. Camping with Vanessa was like Camping with no other. Always the 1st person in the water and no one made bacon and eggs on a little Camping stove like her. You have no idea how missed you are Nessy 🩷

When I think of Vanessa, I remember many silly times. She would always be laughing, even at her own stories and jokes. I got along well with her and will miss her. 💜
