LOUISE M. GARBUTT

(née Studham)

February 6, 1922 – September 7, 2025

Louise M. Garbutt (née Studham) reached the last milestone of her long life of 103 years, passing peacefully at West Park Manor on September 7, 2025.

Mom was born on the family farm in February, 1922 at Dugald, MB, the eldest child of George and Clara Studham. She was married to her loving husband Arthur in 1942 after Dad joined the RCAF. She and Art spent most of their 58 years together in Winnipeg.

Mom is survived by her son George (Margaret) of Calgary; and daughter Sharon (David) of Winnipeg; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

One of her greatest pleasures was knitting blankets and sweaters as the grand and great grandchildren arrived in the family. Mom was very active in Regent’s Park United Church, Cubs and Scouts, the International Order of Job’s Daughters and Eastern Star, Masonic and Shrine organizations.

A Celebration of Mom’s life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, 1:00PM at 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road. Her ashes will be placed beside Art at the St. Vital Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.

Our family would like to gratefully acknowledge the care and kindness of the staff at West Park Manor Personal Care Home.

If anyone so wishes, charitable gifts may be made to the two organizations that Mom faithfully supported, the ALS Society of Manitoba, 2A 1717 Dublin Avenue, Winnipeg and Shriners Hospitals for Children, Canada, 1003 Decarie Blvd, Montreal.

Louise’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Louise and my family met through our Job's Daughters and Eastern Star connections. She was a very thoughtful and caring friend for many years. I am grateful to have had her in my life and to have shared so many times together.

We met Louise in 1966, we were newly weds and alone for our first Christmas, but she insisted we celebrate with their family . We had a connection with Job's Daughters and we had many a good laughs. She came to help with our new born, as I was readmitted to hospital.. She was a Lady who was always so caring and thoughtful. She touched the lives of everone she met and shared her love with all. We have wonerful memories that will last forever. I feel blessed to have known such an incredible Lady

Enjoy the picture of Auntie Louise as Ron's Cub Scout leader.! She lived to serve others. The other two are of family including her grandparents and parents. Auntie Louise loved her family and we loved her. A favorite memory is when she would wrap a coin in wax paper and hide it in a slice of birthday cake which each of us wanted! Looking forward to being together again, Auntie!

It was a great pleasure knowing Aunt Louise! She was always very pleasant to me from childhood to adulthood! When my parents, Fred and Sybil Garbutt, visited Uncle Arthur and Aunt Louise, at their St. Vital home I usually went with them And visited with Sharon. It was always a fun time had by all and I always enjoyed Aunt Louise's chocolate cake!! Her's was the best!! Rest in peace Aunt Louise.

I last saw Louise two days before she passed. I was her contact from the United Church in Meadowood. I was with her for over an hour, singing to her, praying with her and holding her hand. Her mind was keen to the end. It was my pleasure to have known Louise. Ann Ingalls

Louise made a huge positive impact on my life and I will always remember her. It's crazy to think that she was probably my current age when she impacted my life as a teenager in Jobies. thinking of her makes me want to try harder to make a positive imp on the works thru my life. Thank you Louise for be the remarkable, kind, amazing woman you were to many
