BRIAN DANIEL GHIDONI

"Bryan Stone"

November 28, 1949 – August 23, 2019

Brian Ghidoni, known by his friends and associates in Radio Broadcasting as “Bryan Stone” passed away suddenly on August 23 at the age of 69. Brian will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Donna; children Chera (Mark) Rasmussen of Indian Arm, BC and Ryan (Noreen) Ghidoni of North Kildonan as well as grandchildren Kaia, Max, Logan, Emma and Harper. Also left to mourn his passing are his brothers Tim, Robert (Linda) and Ron (Karen); sister Kathy (Glen) Tuckett; in-laws Shirley Weimer and Kathy Sellers; cousin Chris Wyshnicki; 3 nieces and 4 nephews. Brian is pre-deceased by his brother Duke; father Albert and mother Jean.

Bryan Stone had a challenging and glorious 37 year career in Radio Broadcasting starting in Kenora, Ontario at CJRL. He learned to be a Rock Jock, a Newsman, a Program Director, all the while doing remotes at Canadian Tire, Seniors Residences and Churches. He specialized in News Broadcasting and moved up the ladder at CFRW Winnipeg, CKGM Montreal, CKWW Windsor, CKLW Windsor/Detroit then back to CFRW Winnipeg to become the News Director. Then he served as Operations Manager at Q94 and CFRW. He enjoyed his last 17 years as the General Manager of CFRW, Q94 and BOB FM.  He was well respected for his management skills, integrity and his ability to act as a mentor to many young people starting out in Broadcasting. He was generous to the community as a founding member of Winnipeg Harvest, Board Member of the United Way and Share Our Strength and Chief Barker of Variety Club. He was the President of the Broadcasters Association of Manitoba and was presented with an Honorary Lifetime membership. He sponsored charities in Winnipeg through contributions to fundraisers and golf tournaments. His staff and their families enjoyed Christmas party weekends at Gull Harbor.

Brian was dedicated to his family and enjoyed supporting them in pursuits of their pastimes and careers. His home was a refuge to his children and friends, swimming in the pool, playing rock music in the band in the basement, eating meals and sleeping overnight. In later years Donna and Brian enjoyed many trips with family, friends, sales staff and clients to BC, Mexico, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Hawaii and Palm Springs. They finally settled down at The Country Villas, Birds Hill.

In retirement Brian’s favorite pastime was playing with his five Grandchildren. He took them to movies, watched them in sports and dance and would secretly let them play on his IPad as long as they wanted. He made the best blueberry pancakes for the kids at 6:00 AM and let his wife sleep in. Most of all we will miss his kindness and generosity. He always put everyone first.
