DONALD CHARLES GIBSON

January 25, 1928 – July 12, 2020

It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Donald Gibson on July 12 2020, at the age of 92.

Don will forever be remembered by his wife Vivian of 67 years; four children, Bruce (Sheree), Ken (Pat), Kimberly (Barry), and Brenda (John); seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister Bev (Fred), sisters-in-law Jackie (Ethan), Ruth (Ian), and  Bernice.

Dad was born and lived in St. Vital all of his life. He loved golfing and as a twelve-year old he won a golf tournament; he always said if he hadn’t met Mom he could have been a professional golfer. He loved sports and played hockey and baseball on the Eaton’s team.

Dad followed in the family footsteps and entered employment with the T.Eaton’s Co. For 42 years he was a shoe buyer in the warehouse and the store, later becoming the manager of the ladies shoe department. He enjoyed working with the ladies.

Dad and Mom loved to travel took us on road trips when we were kids then when we were old enough to leave alone, they were off to Europe, Florida, Hawaii, Vegas, and several cruises.

Dad also loved the cottage at Brereton Lake we had lots of fun there and if he took you fishing, there was no talking was allowed.

Dad was a man of few words but when he did say something, he would tell it the way it was. He would start his day by reading his Winnipeg Free Press. If it hadn’t been delivered on time, he would get quite upset.

Dad loved being with family and was fortunate enough to see his grandchildren get married and have children of their own. Dad attended Calvary Temple throughout his whole life, which was where he met Mom. He volunteered as an usher and in the Sunday School office.

A private celebration of Don’s life will be held at the Calvary Temple. Don’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. They also encourage the sharing of photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Sincere condolences to Don's family, his wife Vivian, and his children and their families. Also to his sister Beverley.  Don's Mother Anna, & my husband's Father Julius, were cousins. (My husband Clifford was a 2nd cousin to Don). The last time we saw the family was at Ken's service in 2017. My deepest sympathy to all.

I was always inspired by the loving family vivian and don created.  Feeling loved and included whenever i was fortunate enough to be with them. Don was a good moral man.  I feel   greatfull to have known him.

Hi Viv, so enjoyed looking at your family photos.  My first time to see any of your kids.  ( I was married and gone before you had children. ) Often look back on our friendship of four. Presious memories.  Don looked good as he  got older, a handsome man, and you  too look fantastic.   God is good, and rewards us for serving HIM. Donny was a steady man and now he is w Jesus.  Love and Prayers.   Joan G ( Poirier)

Dearest Vivian and family. It was always a pleasure for Richard (Rick) and I to share after Sunday church lunches with you and Don and the gang when we visited Winnipeg from Quebec till 1970 and then from Ontario. Don was faithful in my eyes and he has gone on to his reward. May all his family line continue to follow Jesus especially now in these last days before Jesus comes back. May the Lord bless you and keep you and make his face to shine upon you and give you peace.  Richard and Margaret Unger Waterloo, Ontario

What a wonderful photo tribute.  I am sorry for your loss. So many wonderful memories with your family. Loved seeing a photo of the “gang” included.  Praying for God’s peace & strength at this time for your family!

Many an evening I saw Mr. Gibson walking home smartly down the street from the bus stop - always smartly dressed.  I enjoyed the video.  My sincere condolences to the family.

Betty and I recall the time a few years back at the Waschuk tent wedding near Carman. We sat at the same table, and talked about how we would keep on meeting once all our children had married and you said that we'd still have funerals to attend. Who would have known that things would work out this way at Don's funeral in 2020. Please know, Vivian, that we're with you in our thoughts and prayers.
