KEVIN GLENN GIBSON

August 8, 1957 - February 14, 2021

With great sadness we announce the passing of Kevin Glenn Gibson on February 14, 2021 at 63 years old.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife and best friend of 40 years Brenda; daughters, Breanne, and Coral (Matthew); grandson Shep; grandpets, Cash and Dolly; stepmom Bernice; and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Ken and Rita; and his sister Sandra.

Kevin was born in Winnipeg, and moved to Toronto as a young boy.  He spent time between Winnipeg and Toronto after his mother passed away. While in Winnipeg he lived with his grandparents, with his cousins next door. When he was back in Toronto, he and his sister regularly took the bus after school to the closest ski hill to hit the slopes. In 1971 the family returned to Winnipeg settling back in St. Vital. A year later, Bernice became Kevin’s step mom

Kevin spent his twenties on the back of a motocross bike. He loved anything with a motor, and raced for many years in Manitoba with a crew of guys he stayed friends with for the rest of his life.

He met Brenda in in 1977 in Grand Forks, and they married in 1984 and started their lives together. In 1987 they moved to their forever home, took over the lake from his parents and welcomed their first daughter Coral. In 1990, they welcomed their second daughter Breanne.

Kevin spent his 35 year career with the City of Winnipeg Water and Waste Department working in the field for many years, until becoming Supervisor. He also ran a business doing contracting on the side building decks, fences and finishing basements. He knew how to fix everything, and build anything.  He was never one to sit still for long, and through his illness renovated nearly his entire house, finished his daughter’s basement, and was supervising work in his other daughter’s house with a little help from his friends, and son in law Matt.

He lived for his family, his friends and his time at Pye's Landing on Lake of the Woods. Every weekend from May to October was spent at the lake. He loved being on the water in his boat, fishing in the Ranger, and sitting on the deck with his family and friends to have a laugh, a good meal and a rum. His friends at Pye’s Landing were his second family.

He loved hockey and played in the Southdale Old-Timers Hockey League for over 20 years where made some of his best friends. He played multiple days a week, and was an armchair coach for nearly every game he watched. His friends were his extended family. He loved a good game of monsieur tock and crib. He looked forward to his annual trips to Florida, golf trips, boat and fishing weekends.

He was the ultimate example of what a husband, father, grandfather and friend should be

We wish to thank CancerCare Manitoba and the doctors and nurses at St. Boniface Hospital, Health Sciences Center and the Palliative Care Team, as well as a special thanks to his friends.

A celebration of Kevins life will be held at a later date, when we are safely able to come together. In the meantime, Kevin's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. My memories of my first really good friend are all of Coral, her white hamster, Pye’s landing, the green carpet in the basement and dancing to dance mix 95’ & Leanne Rhymes on Kevin’s stereo system. No matter how loud we turned it, how many time we climbed on that downstairs bar - Kevin never told us to turn it down or relax! He loved it. He loved us. We loved him. He felt like a second dad to me. Kevin truly was the most amazing man I think I ever knew. He set a precedent for what a father, husband, friend, friends dad should be! He could do it all and he loved Coral, Breanne and Brenda beyond measure. It’s funny because Kevin was such a manly man .... and I vividly remember Coral & I subjecting him to an entire summer of Dirty Dancing and Grease on VHS at the lake (at least twice a day) but not once did we have to turn it off! He was a girl dad and welcomed all of his daughters friends into his home and we immediately became a part of the Gibson family. Thank you Gibson’s for making me a part of your family and for such amazing memories I’ll forever hold close. My heart breaks at the news of Kevin’s passing and me, Kristy, Howard and Linda send our deepest sympathies to you all. Kevin will be missed by everyone he ever came across. ❤

I had the great pleasure of working with Kevin for many years. He was a very honorable man who would always help others whenever he could without being asked. He had a wonderful sense of humor and we had countless good laughs together. I'll never forget our "fibbing contests" where we'd try to outdo each other telling outlandish stories. You will be missed by many but never forgotten my friend. A life well lived indeed. God bless and God speed.

Brenda, I’m sorry to hear this devastating news about Kevin. I have very fond memories of you, Kevin, Coral and Breanne -our wonderful neighbours of 9 years.  So true, Kevin was a sweetheart and a super friendly guy.  I’ll never forget when he came over to tell us about Breanne being born. He clapped his hands together, rubbed them and said “it’s a girl, we wanted another girl!”  Lots of memories hanging out on the street, kids birthday parties, and a helping hand whenever needed.  Yeah, Kevin was a great guy.

My sincerest and deepest sympathies to my beautiful sister Brenda and daughters’ Coral (Matt and Baby Shep), and Breanne.  Words alone cannot express the sadness of Kevin’s passing.  He was a wonderful and kind husband, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle who truly lived for his family and friends.  Kevin cared for and looked after his family to the very end.  Kevin was always there to help out mom and dad (Stella & Jim), all of us, fixing many things and offering his help, encouragement and guidance.  Whether it was household, car-related or other issues, Kevin was always there.  Thank you Kevin for always sharing your expertise, your common sense and kindness on most anything.  You will be truly missed in our family more than words can say.  God Bless Kevin and Brenda and their family in this sad grieving time.  May Kevin rest easy but continue to watch over his family from heaven, smile at their achievements and send loving signs of continued love, hope and encouragement.  That would be Kevin’s way.  May you Rest In Peace Kevin.  Love always, sister/sister-in-law Diane, children Amanda and Mackenzie. ❤

We are deeply saddened by the news of Kevin’s passing. We were lucky enough to work with Kevin and got a chance to see what a remarkable man he was. Always willing to help, quick with a joke, a smile that would put you at ease, or just someone to talk to when you needed. Please accept our deepest and most heartfelt condolences at this difficult time. Brenda, we wish you and your family peace to bring you comfort, courage to face the days ahead and cherished memories of Kevin to hold in your heart. He will be missed.

Brenda Brenda & family... So sorry to get the sad news of Kevin’s passing. Everyone knows what a special guy he was and truly how he’ll be missed. I know back in the day when I’d be doing my best getting us into trouble or worse, (best, was something about a back lane downtown!!!), he’d always be laughing about it afterwards and be ready for the next s...show we’d get into. Never a dull moment if Kevin was involved. I’m glad I got to see him not long ago. He shared what he was going through, but didn’t dwell on it. Instead, in true Kevin thoughtfulness, he’d rather get kinda all got caught up on our families...  Ernie and Denise

We are so saddened by your loss of Kevin.  He was such a genuine person and so easy to talk to. He put everyone at ease and would always put a smile on our faces with any conversation or small chit chat.  He truly was a great example of a great person that made moments count to himself but more importantly to others around him, no matter who it was.  We will all miss him.❤ Emilie & Scott Delf

Brenda & family so sorry for your loss.  Kevin fought the good fight, now he can rest in peace.  40 years ago as a kid from Ont. at racetracks around MB, my dad & I first met Kevin, always welcoming, always had time to ask how it was going and his help never had to be asked for, it was a given.  Some 20 years later when I had the good fortune to reconnect with him at Pye's, he hadn't changed, still a great guy.  Won't be the same at Pye's, you'll be missed!

I first met Kevin in the sohl league. We were on the same team my first year. I knew right away that it was going to be a fun year with him on our team. He loved to play hockey and be with his friends. Fast forward over 10 years, Val and I  have the privilege to join the Pye's family. This is where we got to know Kevin and Brenda better. We became very good friends. Kevin was a jack of all trades and had anything you needed in his shed as well as a helping hand. We loved their company. Kevin will forever be remembered and dearly missed.   Val and Ray.

Such a heartwarming tribute!  There was no one quite like Kevin.  He had a real passion for life ... .a real man’s man, but fiercely loved his family.  There was nothing Kevin wouldn’t tackle and he was good at everything!!   His family meant the world to him.  Kevin and my father, Bill Atkinson, had mutual respect for one another.  I could relay many stories, but I will close by saying e was always more than willing to help Hal and I and when Hal passed away, Kevin was always there for me.  I will miss his kindness and his thoughtfulness,   You are at peace now Kevin.  Written with love to Brenda and her family.
