KENNETH GLENN GIESBRECHT

March 6, 1962 – May 27, 2021

Ken passed away peacefully with family on May 27, 2021 at the age of 59 after a short battle with cancer. Left to cherish his memory is his dedicated and loving wife Kelly Giesbrecht (nee Berg and Hawrylyshen); daughters Megan Giesbrecht and Brooke Giesbrecht (Jasper Arthur), with Frances Giesbrecht; stepsons Derek Berg (Tara Lagimodiere), and Brandyn (Julie) Berg and their children Liam and Caleb; mother Mary Giesbrecht (predeceased by his father Ben Giesbrecht, 2011); sisters Joan (Rick) Watkins and Melody (Greg) Renton; nieces and nephews Michael, Tianna, Dylan, Taylor, Cassandra, Alexandra, and Breanna. Ken will also be missed by many dear longtime friends.

The song “I can only imagine” was Ken’s favorite and he no longer has to imagine heaven. He was a devout Christian who lived to serve God and others until his final days on earth. Ken was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a compassionate friend. He had a special way of making everyone feel loved and important. This amazing man will be remembered for so many things, such as his ability to bring laughter into any difficult situation and spending a lot of his free time helping others.

Ken attended Grant Memorial Church and had a joy for serving through mission trips and sharing his faith with others. He enjoyed the beauty of nature and loved to travel to places such Europe, Israel, Ecuador, Guatemala, Cuba, the Caribbean, Mexico, and many places across North America. Over the last year Ken took pleasure in walking along the Bois-des-Esprits and Seine River Greenway trails with family and friends. Ken worked passionately as a FedEx courier for over 30 years until his illness. Even when unable to work, he kept in touch with his coworkers, whom he considered as a second family.

A special thank you to the St. Boniface Hospital (Palliative Care Ward) for their great care and compassion in his final days.

In accordance with Ken’s wishes, cremation has taken place (arrangements entrusted to Ethical Death Care) and a celebration of life will follow at a later date.  In the meantime, the family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour Ken's memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Thank you for letting us join your family virtually to remember and honour Ken. I have known Ken since 1988 when I started work at FedEx. From the start he welcomed me and helped me learn a new career. We car pooled for a few years and I remember so many diverse and wonderful conversations.  I always new Ken to be a noble, honourable, loving and humble man. I have always thought of myself as a caring and helpful person who cared about others, however I paled in comparison to Ken. His energy and devotion to advising, mentoring and helping some any people both near and far. Ken has my admiration, respect and love. I will miss him.  God bless you all and watch over you in this difficult time of transition. Remember him well, as so many shall, and find comfort in knowing he has “touched the hand of God.”

What a beautiful service; a great reflection of a great man. We wish we could have shared the time with you; to mourn with you and offer a hug. We trust that the shared memories of times together with Ken brings some comfort and peace, and that his love for Jesus provides joy in the midst of sadness, knowing a reunion will happen. Know that you are in our prayers as you journey the road ahead.
