RICK (CRUNCH) GLADISH

January 5, 1950 - November 2, 2022

On November 2, 2022, Rick Gladish passed from this world to re-join his mom and dad as well as his younger brother Leonard in heaven. Rick was 72 years young.

Ricks leaves behind his youngest brother Ed (and wife Shauna); sister-in-law Sheila; nephews Mike, Steve and Eric (and wife Lynn) and their two children, Brooklyn and Liam; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Ed and Pauline; and his younger brother Leonard.

Rick worked for the federal government in the Ministry of Transport for many years, as well as Nav. Can in the private sector. He spent many years as a Mason doing volunteer work and fundraising for many worthy causes. He loved to golf spending many hours hitting that little ball down the fairway, enjoying the camaraderie of various friends and cousins.

Rick had a great fondness as well for nature and the great outdoors. In his younger years, if one didn’t find him on the golf course, he would be fishing from his bass boat with his rod and reel. He also taught himself how to fly-fish, hooking his own ear as well as his youngest brother Ed’s many times during the learning stages.

Once fishing season was finished, autumn came, which meant it was hunting season. He often drove out to the old family farm in Rosa Manitoba for hunting adventures for ducks or the occasional deer. As the years went on, he preferred to feed the deers and ducks, and take photos. He was an avid amateur photographer.

Rick loved to travel in his younger days and saw different parts of the world and enjoyed all it had to offer. He learned to scuba dive and treasured seeing life below the waves. In later life Rick reignited his love of motorcycle’s and owned and enjoyed various Harley Davidson bikes. He often enjoyed riding for a charity run with his brothers from the Masonic Lodge and other organizations.

Rick was a kind and gentle soul, always willing to lend a helping hand in any way he could.
Rick had a very soft spot in his heart for all animals helping any stray that crossed his path. For much of Rick’s life, he had a cat on his lap, with the exception of one cat Moochie, who preferred to curl up on top of his head while he watched television.

Rick was proud of his Polish heritage, and never met a perogie, or cabbage roll that he didn’t like! He loved breaking bread with family.

His family will miss Rick deeply, along with his easy laughter, quick wit, and caring soul. His heroes always were cowboys, and they still are, it seems.

God speed Rick

Until we meet again

As I prepare to attend Rick's Celebration of Life I can't help but smile and think about all the good times we had. Travelling south to Salt Lake City, going to the movies, camping, fishing and the days working together at the Dairy Queen. Those thoughts will always remain with me. In the last years we may not have seen much of each other but you will always remain a good friend. Condolences from our family to yours. Andre' & Helen Perry

Brother Rick and I met thru Masonry, then when the Widows Sons (a motorcycle group of masons that ride) was formed, Rick became an active member. He was also active in the CMMG a motorcycle rights lobby group, that works closely with the government to legislate safety regulations for motorcyclists. The best way to describe Rick is solid, stable, reliable, and some one you could count on! I’m proud to call Rick “Brother” and friend. Happy to Meet, Sorry to Part, Happy to Meet Again! Deepest condolences to the Gladish family!

This is just a few of many memories we have of Rick.  Love Jim & Michelle ______________________________________________________________  I’m Jim, Rick’s cousin, and both Michelle (my wife) and I worked with Rick at Transport Canada. Michelle joined Transport Canada in her early 20s, wow . . . more than 30 plus years ago, how time flies. Being green to the department and the federal government, Michelle definitely did not know the ins and outs on how things worked, but soon found out that if she needed any help in understanding anything related to procurement, Rick was the man. Small in stature, yet bigger than life, would sum him up.  His sense of humour, meticulous record keeping, penmanship that could win awards, she learned so much in such a short time because of his generosity in educating.  Michelle never felt like a question asked was dumb, except if you asked Rick it more than once.  Michelle referred to him as the Wizard, from the Wizard of Oz, behind the curtain, but making everything run smoothly. As Rick was 5 years older than me, I never got to know Rick until I started to work for Transport Canada.  I quickly learned that Rick was the guy to see if you needed anything from pens and pencils to getting vehicle shipped to the artic on a sealift.  He was Transports version of Radar O’Reilly.  One day I saw Rick with a really nice plant in his office . . . I said, ‘hey Rick how do I get one of those’.  He said, ‘do you want one??’, ‘what kind do you want??’ . . . I said, ‘I don’t know, perhaps one like yours’.  A few hours later I see a flatbed trolley with a forest full of plants coming towards my office.  He said, ‘take one or two, or as many as you want’. Come springtime I noticed that most everyday Rick would have a ‘branch meeting’ at 2:45 and had to leave . . . this went on for months.  I always wondered what that meant, I assumed it was something important, until one day he asked me to come to one of these meetings.  I found out that day, that his 2:45 meeting was actually code for a 3:15 tee time at St. Boniface Golf Course.  On the first hole, I turned to him and said, ‘branch meeting?’, he said, ‘yes, look around, see all the trees with branches on them’ . . . As Michelle and I sat down to reminisce about Rick, and she shared her thoughts about how helpful and generous he was to her, I had to chuckle just a bit, as I know Rick was great to all, male or female, but he always had a soft spot in his heart for the females in the office.  Michelle said to me in response, ‘I knew’. We will all miss Rick but are happy that we have such great and fond memories of him.❤

Crunch came into my life almost 48 years ago, back in the day when he owned a baby blue Porsche and spent summer weekends with his friends at the West Hawk Lake campground. Back then, Rick loved to fish, scuba dive, and spend evenings around the camp fire, those were memorable times. Crunch introduced me to Freemasonry, my Brother, thank you for that, and for your many years of friendship. Until we meet again! My condolences to you Eddy and your Family.  Kristjan (Larry) Goodmanson

I became friends with Rick at St. Boniface Golf Club.  We golfed together, went to various restaurants (usually Chinese), and went to movies.  He also helped me out when I needed some assistance around the home.  My condolences to his family.
