BARRY GLAICAR

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Barry in the late hours of July 22, 2023, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Barry is predeceased by his daughter Crystal and sister Bonnie. He leaves behind to mourn, his children; son Grant; daughter Jasmine; son Bradley (Meghan); and Grandchildren, Malachai, Preston, Emree, Elias, and his youngest grandson Emmett due in October 2023. He is also survived by his sister Melody, brother-in-law Joe, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Barry was born in Yorkton Saskatchewan on July 1 in 1951, he was raised in Waldren and moved to Winnipeg with family as a teenager. After Barry finished school, he joined the army and had various jobs throughout his years leading up to his retirement. Barry was known as a “Jack of all trades” and had knowledge of a little bit of everything.

Barry had a strong love for everything that added an element of excitement. He had a special bond with Harley Motorcycles and rode up until he was 70 years old. He was still whipping around the sandhill dunes with his quad up until the year of his passing. He had jumped out of a plane over 1000 times over his life and continued to ride toboggans down steep hills and go ice skating with his grandkids this past winter.

Barry’s love for his family, especially his grandkids, was unmatched. He was the cheerleader they would always anticipate being on the sideline, he would treat every accomplishment, big or small, as something to celebrate. Chinese or his favourite diner Red Top were his staples for celebration. In fact, Barry never missed an opportunity to enjoy a good meal. He was the loudest in the room when he ate something he liked, and you’d hear about it until the next great thing he tried. It was a pleasure to cook for Barry because of his enthusiasm towards a home cooked meal.

Throughout Barry’s sickness he never let on that he was feeling unwell. He was still attending family functions by getting day release passes from the hospital, as his favourite place to be was with his family, sharing company and of course a good meal. You could tell he was always very content when everyone was together and having a good time. He consistently put his love into his children and grandchildren and creating memories for them of camping trips, hiking trails, quad rides, bumper boating, beach days, horseback riding, spending quality one on one time together, doing crafts or playing practical jokes, and so much more up until the end of his life.

It is with great sadness and some disbelief that it is now time to take the lessons Barry has taught those around him and move forward in a world without him. The cancer took over his body quickly and he was unable to continue the fight. Barry was tired and his main concern was that his grandchildren were taken care of and supported throughout losing him. His consistent nature, caring, and genuine spirit will be missed greatly as he was loved deeply.

Barry has been cremated and there is a celebration of life service at 2pm on Friday, August 25, 2023, at the Norberry Glenlee Community Centre (26 Molgat Avenue).
