HEINRICH (HEINZ) GÖBL

July 29, 1948 - May 2, 2022

Heinz Göbl passed away peacefully on May 2, 2022 at 4:00 am with his wife at his side.

Left to celebrate his life are his loving wife, Viola, son Fritz; daughter Alexandra (Bernhard); grandchildren, Sarah, Lukas, Jennifer, and Kai; brother Helmut (Sigrid); sister Petra; as well as nieces and nephew. He was predeceased by his parents, Heinrich and Gerda Göbl.

Heinz was a man of faith and family, hardworking, always striving to provide for his family and help others. He served in the Baptist Church in Linz Austria in several capacities.

Heinz was born in Linz, Austria on July 29, 1948. At age 15 he began his apprenticeship to become a Watch Maker preparing to work in the family jewelry business. After achieving the position of Watchmaker Master, he apprenticed in Goldsmithing and earned journeyman status as a Goldsmith. He worked in the family business until emigrating to Canada.

Heinz enjoyed skiing and hiking in the hills and mountains of Austria, and travelling. Many afternoons were spent hiking in the foothills of the Austrian Alps with his family. With young Fritz’s hand in his, toddler Alexandra on his shoulders, wife Viola at his side, he would spend hours hiking along scenic paths, bubbling streams, enjoying the light breezes rustling through the trees, and being constantly amazed at God's wonderful creation. Then it would be time for a picnic before finding a new trail home. We all enjoyed making up stories about the various small animals scurrying into hiding as the sound of our footsteps neared.

In 2000 God had other plans for him. With his wife and daughter Alexandra, he embarked on a new adventure and emigrated to Canada. Upon his arrival in Canada Heinz took a jobs as a commercial cleaner before settling into a career as a driver for Handi-Transit Winnipeg.

Heinz was a soft-spoken man, a very dedicated driver and also saw this as an opportunity to share his faith with his passengers as occasion would present itself. Heinz enjoyed the camaraderie with his coworkers and the friendships that were formed with his regular passengers.

Although Heinz was a man of few words, he was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, ready to help anyone in need.

The Family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate care of Heinz. Your kindness was much appreciated.

A celebration of Heinz’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on June 18, 2022 at Waverly Church (2171 Waverly St).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Heinz's name to Avant Ministries Canada (2121 Henderson Hwy).

This is a loving tribute to Heinz.  I have lots of special memories of our time together in the Linz Baptistengemeinde and visits at your home  up in the hills, then later in Winnipeg. Your dear Heinz was a quiet, gentle man who faithfully trusted the Lord. Praying for you, Alexandra, Fritz and your grandchildren.
