MICHAEL REINHOLD GOHRINGER

We are sad to announce the death of Michael Reinhold Gohringer on Friday, April 28, 2023. He passed away peacefully with his siblings at his side at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg. Mike was 68 years old.

Mike will be deeply missed by his siblings Rudy Gohringer (Roseann) of Tampa, Florida; Angelika Gohringer Leon (Nevio) of Vaughan, Ontario; and Carl Gohringer (Julia) of London, England. He is also loved and will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews Andrea (Ignacio), Daniel, Kendel, Matisse, Eathan, Keowan, and Aidan. Mike was predeceased by his parents Rudolf Gohringer and Anneliese Gohringer, of Sudbury, Ontario.

Mike was born in the small Northern Ontario town of Chapleau and later grew up in Sudbury, Ontario where he attended high school and university. Following graduation, Mike embarked on a lengthy career at Canadian Pacific Railway, where he retired in 2015 as a customs business specialist. Mike had a lifelong interest in maths and sciences, and was well informed on world issues, all of which prompted many great conversations; it was always interesting being in his company. He was also an exceptionally good chess player which he avidly pursued in retirement.

Mike had a wonderful sense of humour and his comedic timing for witty responses was his signature style for lighting up a room with laughter. Mike was gracious and humble. Friends and family were especially important to Mike, as demonstrated through his devotion to our mother in her final years and his frequent travels to spend time with his nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.

In accordance with Mike’s wishes, there will be a private family memorial service.

I’m so sorry for your loss.  I got to know Mike at 2 Kelly’s Cafe. We lived in the same building.  Travels was always what we ended up chatting about.  I was in the restaurant as his family was leaving (and getting hugs from Kelly); that’s when Kelly told me he was gone.  I will always remember his warm smile, openness, and genuine personality.  Bon voyage Mike!

It's still a shock that Mike won't be able to share more years with us.  His friendship goes back to all those good times in Sudbury and Toronto.  I'm very happy to have known him and will miss him for sure.  So long Mike!

Uncle Mike,  You were my goofy uncle I was always so excited to play with when I was younger. When I was older you always made me laugh with your witty humour.  I only wish we had got to spend more time together. I will miss you. Rest in Peace ❤️

My heartfelt sympathies and condolences to Mike's family. I worked with Mike at CP  on many projects in the his default specialty "customs". He spoke warmly of his family , his mom that was still shovellong snow well into  her old age ... His humour and computer type mind was amazing.

Amy and I were shocked and saddened to learn of Mike's illness and passing. I only met him for the first time a couple of years ago on his visit to London, but he struck me as an incredibly warm person with a rich, irreverent sense of humour; a story teller. Goodbye, Mike. It was wonderful to have met you.

Rudy, Angelika and Norman….we were so shocked and saddened to hear that Mike had died. It was too soon. He should have had years to enjoy retirement.  He had such a good heart and we were so impressed by his care of your Mom during Covid. He was a great neighbor and we will miss him, his good humour and witticisms also. Hugs to all of you!🤗🤗🤗 love from Gwen and Lou Visentin❤️

I didn't know you very well when I was a kid; too many years separated us. But our relationship aged far more finely than I suppose we have.  We definitely made up for those early years; I'll cherish every moment I ever had with you. You'll forever be my big brother.
