GLORIA GOODINE

(née PELLETIER)

November 15, 1927 - December 30, 2022

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mom and nana, Gloria Goodine (nee Pelletier) at the age of 95 on December 30, 2022. Gloria was born on November 15, 1927, and is predeceased by her parents, Charles and Clara Pelletier, brothers Tony, Homer, Lloyd and sisters Adele and Marie and her beloved grandson Jamison Lister. Gloria is survived by her only daughter Glory (Jeff) Lister, along with her best friend and granddaughter Janelle Lister as well as her cherished grandson Jonathan (Amber). She leaves to mourn her passing her sister Jessie Chuipka and brothers Martin (Pat) Pelletier and Lorne (Lynda) Pelletier and much-loved niece Karen Topham.

Mom was an amazing ball player and inducted into the Manitoba Hall of Fame in 2004. She played seniors women’s fast ball in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and BC. Gloria spent many years living and working in Vancouver and relocated to Winnipeg in 1978 to finish out her 37 year career with Zellers. She lived here until her passing.

Gloria was blessed with great health and was extremely independent and active until the last few months. She was selflessly devoted to her daughter and grandchildren, and they always came first in her life. She was the true matriarch of our family, and we cannot imagine life without her. Nana was a great believer in the power of walking and always said “you have to keep moving”, so we shall try to do that until we see her again one day.

Gloria's family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at St. Charles Parish, 320 St. Charles Street.

Oh Glory and family I am so saddened to read the news of Gloria’s passing. Glory I have so many fond memories of your mom when we were kids going to Carleton together and then through high school, I always thought your mom was the coolest, she was the first woman I knew that had been a competitive athlete,  I looked up to her and admired her for that.  I also loved that she and my mom became friends and curled together in the curling league my dad and mom belonged to. Gloria was one of the best curlers on the ice…man or woman! I know my mom enjoyed the time she spent with your mom on and off the ice.  My deepest condolences to you Glory and your family, your mom was a remarkable woman. Love, Marla

What luck that Debbie and I became friends with Glory and even for only a few short years in the 70’s we were privileged to have met and visited with Glory and Gloria at their apartment behind the Haida Theatre in Vancouver.  Gloria was always happy to have us over and hang out with Glory…plenty of laughs and Gloria had a a wonderful laugh which always got us laughing.  Gloria never talked about herself but when needed, she always provided great advice and encouragement not only to Glory and to all of Glory’s friends. I had heard that Gloria was an amazing ball player, no doubt Glory’s ball sense, skill and tenacity was naturally inherited. We will always have wonderful memories of Gloria, what a classy Lady. Our condolences, thoughts and prayers to her Family.
