MARION NORINE GORDON

“Rene”

1924 – 2025

Peacefully, on April 11, 2025, our beloved mother, grandmother, and the heart of our family slipped away into the arms of her loved ones who passed before her.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Babe (1987), her cherished son Craig (2019), as well as her siblings Norma, Jim, and Gord. She is survived by her dear sister, Joan Dubyts.

Mom was born on September 22, 1924, in the village of Belmont, Manitoba, the second child of Effie (MacFarlane) and Norman Matheson.

She often spoke fondly of her wonderful childhood, filled with close friends and family. She especially loved skating on Williamson’s Lake in the winter, Christmas concerts, and swimming in Pelican Lake during the summer.

After graduating high school, she moved to Winnipeg to work at the Bank of Montreal, but it wasn’t long before her high school sweetheart, Babe, came calling. They were married in Belmont on September 2, 1944, and were blessed with two children—Craig in 1945 and Lou in 1949—completing their little family.

Mom was deeply involved in her community. She loved playing cards, reading, gardening, and was a lifelong choir member with a deep love for her church.

She also had a flair for fashion and always wanted to look her best. When one of the women in our family was having a rough day, Mom would smile and say, “Put some lipstick on, honey—you’ll feel better!”

Mom had an extraordinary gift for making people feel seen and special. She lived her life without complaint, with incredible patience, generosity, and respect for others. Above all else, her love for her family came first.

She adored her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her one great-great-grandchild—and they adored her right back. As one of her nieces once said, “She was our angel on earth.”

When life became more challenging, Mom came to live with Wayne and Lou. We shared 12 wonderful years together, enjoying life’s little moments. She lovingly called that time her “first heaven.”

Her final 3½ years were spent at Park Manor. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the staff for their care and kindness.

Mom leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and beautiful memories. She will be dearly missed.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Lou and Wayne; her grandchildren Paula (Tony), Suzanne (Joel), Stacee (Dan), and Josh (Brett); and her great-grandchildren Marielle (Matt), Martine (Scott), Tyler, Danica, Maya, Brady, and Sadie.

A life so beautifully lived,

and a heart so deeply loved.

Marion’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.
