Roy Gorkoff

ROY ALEX GORKOFF, JR.
November 5, 1956 – October 8, 2025
Roy passed away at his home, where he spent time reading, cooking, and listening to his favourite music.
Roy was born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan and lived most of his life in Winnipeg. He graduated from Churchill High School and spent his youth playing baseball, golfing and curling, winning the Manitoba junior curling championship in 1976. He went on to complete his bachelor in computer science from University of Manitoba and worked for CNR in various roles, retiring as an engineer in 2021.
Roy was a private person, an avid reader, a decent pool player, and a lover of animals. He was funny and when younger, was as a favoured playmate of his nieces and nephews. He took frequent trips to Minneapolis to listen to music and watch sports. He was a sports fan, especially the Blue Bombers and Goldeyes, meticulously keeping statistics on all the playoffs. He also loved a good bottle of red wine and to argue politics, as well as keep detailed notes about his travels across Canada.
Roy was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Ethel; and his sister Tamara. His surviving siblings Rick, Pat, and Kelly; nieces and nephews, Ricky, Tracy, Kenny, David, Rhonda, Matthew, Gabby and Mara, grieve the lost opportunity to connect with him.
Thanks to Judy for reaching out at a critical time. Per Roy’s preferences, there will be no service. His ashes were spread by his family in a private moment.

I curled with Roy in the mid 70's and also accompanied him on a few Minneapolis baseball trips. You always knew that time spent with him would be full of laughs.. I wish we'd kept in touch as we always seemed to find something to amuse us.

Lining up with Roy meant you were in for a good train ride to Sioux Lookout! Good discussions and a lot of funny stories. Gone too soon. Rest in Peace, Roy.
My sincere condolences go out to his next of kin.
