LINDA EILEEN GREEN

(née KRISTOFFERSON)

October 28, 1952 - June 20, 2024

On Thursday, June 20, 2024, Linda Eileen Green (nee Kristofferson) passed away peacefully at the Concordia Hospital at the age of 71, her family at her side.

Linda grew up in Seven Sisters Falls and Great Falls, Manitoba. She was the youngest daughter of Walter and Katie Kristofferson. During her school years, she was an active member of the 4-H club. She attended the Lac du Bonnet Collegiate where she was a member of the yearbook committee and was an avid curler.  In her last year of high school, she represented the province of Manitoba and spent 10 days in Newfoundland as a federal provincial exchange student.  She was thrilled to have met the Honourable Joey Smallwood, who was Premier of Newfoundland at that time.

Following graduation, she worked at Manitoba Hydro for a few years before entering the Saint Boniface General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a registered nurse in 1975. There she met Karen Franklin who remained a best friend for the rest of her life.  Nursing took her to Gimli, Selkirk and Thompson, where she met and married.  The couple moved to Toronto but divorced shortly after and Linda returned to Winnipeg. She was an emergency room, nurse at the Misericordia Hospital for the rest of her career, but also did some work at the Seven Oaks Hospital and some Northern Nursing Stations. Many wonderful friendships were made during her career and lasted the rest of her life.

Linda enjoyed travelling with her mother and sister Marlene. They visited Norway and Poland and other countries in Europe where some of their family had immigrated from. She enjoyed cruising to the Caribbean and Cuba as well. Linda was a very talented crafter. Her Eatons beauty dolls, calico bunnies, RCMP bears, and other little animals won her awards at the Red River Exhibition. She continued to pursue amigurumi and created adorable bunnies and bears which she lovingly gave as gifts.  Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds.

Linda absolutely loved her cats. Purcilla, Opal and Ruby were her children, and she was devastated when they passed away. If any fundraising events were available to support cats, Linda was there to help.

Linda was also an avid football fan and enjoyed attending Winnipeg Blue Bomber games with her mom, another bomber fan. Then she would happily chat on the phone with her brother Larry and cousin Ken. Linda loved chatting on the phone with friends and family, often for hours!

Linda was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Katie, sister Marlene and nephew-in-law Patrick Rogers. She is survived by her brother Larry (Jacalynn) and nieces Leann Rogers, Laura and Marcel Poland, (and their children Joshua, Mackenzie and Sydney),  Tanya and Blake Barrett (their daughter Jordan), Marlene‘s daughters Christa  Fraser (their children Aiden  and Liam ) and Brenly Riddell  and friend Mo Verjee.

The family would like to thank Adam and Heidi Baran for the years of support and kindness, and to her dear friends Karen, Darlene, Francoise and Pat who stayed by her side along with Christa, Brenly, Mo, Aiden and Liam. Thanks also to the wonderful staff of the Concordia Hospital.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Craig Street cats or Darcy’s ARC (animal rescue centre).

You are free dearest.

We will miss you.

So sorry to hear of Linda's passing! We went to school together in Seven Sisters and were part of the Manitoba Hydro family. I have fond memories of that time and whenever we met each other in Winnipeg we would reminisce about those times. I'm glad she will be reunited with her 2 travel companions, her Mom& sister Marlene once again. Condolences to Larry & Jackie and all the Kristofferson family. 💐🙏🏻
