ARCHIE ALEXANDER JOHN GREIG

September 4, 1937 - January 11, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Archie Greig, in Grace Hospital in the early morning of January 11, 2023.

Archie was predeceased by parents Jane and Alexander Greig; first wife Patricia Greig; and son Donald Greig. He will be dearly missed by his wife Barbara; son Derrick (Anne); siblings, Bruce (Louise), Agnes, and Manuel; stepchildren, Stacey, David, and Jamie (Kathy); grandchildren Andrew, Elana, and Becca; and his many nieces and nephews.

Born on September 4, 1937, in Cowansville, Quebec, Archie grew up in Dunham, Quebec alongside his siblings Bruce, Agnes, and Manuel. While many of Archie’s fondest memories were of his childhood home with its peaceful, open spaces, after joining the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1956, he travelled all over the world.

During his career with the Air Force, Archie met his first wife Patricia. They married and had their two boys Donald and Derrick. Archie immensely enjoyed being outside, and he spent many summer days camping with his family and fishing with Derrick.

Once retired from the air force and living in Woodlands, Manitoba, Archie became a commissionaire. While working for The Winnipeg Richardson International Airport, he found himself in the city often, where he eventually met his second wife Barbara and her three children Stacey, David, and Jamie. Barbara and Archie married in 1995 and shared 28 years together. Maintaining his love of the outdoors, Archie bought a fifth wheel for camping; he and Barbara shared many adventures near and far, including visits down east.

Archie also enjoyed putting his carpentry skills to work and taught his son and stepchildren how to do everything from minor home repairs to building large structures. Archie also loved making homes and feeders for the birds and squirrels who visited his yards frequently and would later make many gifts for family and neighbours, as well as toys for children’s charities.

Archie’s influence has been far-reaching. The shared memories will forever be treasured by each person whose life he touched.

A private service for family was held on Sunday, January 22, 2023. A memorial service will take place on a later date to be determined.

Archie's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Uncle Archie always had a smile. I remember him and Aunty Patsy coming to visit in Oak Point with the camper on his truck that he built. Condolences to all the family.

Dear Derrick Bruce Manuel Barbara and family My deepest and sincere sympathy on your loss.  Archie Pat Donald and Derrick were our neighbours on Gallagher Avenue.  I have many great memories especially summers when Bruce and Manuel used to come.  After Archie moved to Woodlands my Dad still went to visit. Such good neighbours and friends .  Archie was always helpful and cheerful .   As always life in the fast lane and we all lost touch but wanted you to know you were never forgotten.  We had a lot of good times together.  My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time and may all your cherished memories be a comfort to you.  Heaven has gained another shining star Gloria Pongracz nee Harrison ❤

Dearest Barbara  So sorry to hear of Archie’s passing. He was so full of life and energy. We still have fond memories of working together for Bruce & Louise’s wedding and our talk of ‘unionizing’ since they were working us all to the bone… 😀. Our thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time. All our sympathy. Love Angela, Andrew & Daman.
